I like Eco Home in my neighborhood because they are friendly and a great resource for green building and home renovation materials. The staff are always helpful and friendly, and though the prices always seem high, they are about average for the healthy stuff in paint and materials.
Broom Brush is a local cafe that I frequent on my way to work. The interior is pretty worn and definitely not flashy, but the food is good and the service is very friendly and efficient. With reasonable prices, it's a good choice in the morning.
I go to Norge for their wet cleaning services, which is supposed to be like dry cleaning but without the harsh chemicals. It's quite expensive to clean this way and the regular toxic dry cleaning way.
If you want to experience the delicious food at Bette's, get there very early in the morning. When they first open is about the only way to get seated without waiting more than an hour. The wait is a testimony to their good food and decent service. Just be prepared!
Caffe Trieste is in my neighborhood and almost always packed. I can only imagine that it's a draw for the atmosphere because there's usually a long line to wait in and the tables are super cramped together. Somehow everyone seems to be having a good time though..
I only go to Jody's for the fried chicken. It is truly the best I've ever had. They take out the fat but leave the skin and then fry it up in some special spices/recipe that is to die for. The only problem is that sometimes the wait is so long, I'm lightheaded from hunger...!
Rudy's is a great place to go for a good meal in an enjoyable environment. I like the funky and the fresh attitude in the place, and there are some yummy items on the menu too.
When I first went to Thanh Long, I thought I was in heaven. The garlic noodles and crab are truly delicious... if you can eat them in under 30 minutes. After that, the enormous amount of butter used in the food starts to congeal, and it is difficult to keep eating when you can actually see how much butter is coating your fork.
We used to go to Pyramid all the time because the beers are good and the food used to match that quality. However, in the last year or so, the menu has shrunk and the food has become too sweet and too heavy. It's still a good place to watch sports and drink with your friends. Just don't expect to get a great dinner out of it.
I've only been to Festoon for their discounted hair model cuts. The teachers are great, so even though it takes hours to get your hair done, it's always interesting to watch as people learn and get a feel for hair styling. Plus, you get a great cut!
