Visitor's Interpretive Ctr
The VIC at Paul Smiths is a great place for hiking on prepared trails. It has a boardwalk, a bridge, and overlooks. At times there are naturalists at the overlooks with binoculars to share with the visitors. The VIC is beautiful, safe, and fun. Enjoy a picnic at the visitor's center or out on the trails at one of the lean-to's or at the picnic tables near the parking lot. Just make sure you clean up your trash!
Goose Watch Winery
Goose Watch Winery has a tasting room in Lake Placid where one can sample their wines and purchase bottles to take home. There are often specials on larger purchases (3 bottles or more). Goose Watch has some excellent fruit wines (pear and peach) for the sweet wine lover. Goose Watch Winery is definitely worth a visit.
Great Adirondack Steak & Sfd
The Great Adirondack Steak and Seafood Restaurant serves excellent seafood and steaks as well as some fabulous beers! Their porter is out of this world! I highly recommend the Great Adirondack Steak and Seafood. Restaurant.
Aki Sushi & Japanese Restaurant
Aki Sushi Japanese Restaurant is a good place to go for a change from the steaks, burgers and pizzas that are so typical on the main street of Lake Placid. Aki Sushi has wonderful sushi and Japanese cuisine served in a comfortable, relaxing atmosphere.
Stone Balloon Winehouse
The Stone Balloon Winehouse offers an extensive wine list, about 20 wines by the glass, and a unique menu. The wait staff are knowledgeable about pairing the wine and food for that special meal. Portions look small. Everything I ate was delicious, and I ate everything! An appetizer, shared 2 small plates with a friend, and shared a dessert. I had sparkling water, one glass of wine, and coffee. I left relaxed and satisfied, not overstuffed or full. It was perfect! The Stone Balloon Winehouse is a great celebration location and date place, a place to go with friends, and a place to relax after a challenging week at work.
Adirondack Wine & Liquor
The staff at the Adirondack Wine & Liquor store are very helpful. My usual wines were not in the store, but when I described what I liked the staff made several recommendations. I selected 1, and the Adirondack Wine & Liquor staff did not steer me wrong. I enjoyed the wine they recommended very much.
And I recommend the Adirondack Wine & Liquor because they took good care of me.
Major Plowshares Army Navy
Major Plowshares Army Navy Store sometimes smells a bit strange when you walk in, but that's just the uniform smell and the wool socks! Knives, tools, canteens, patches, dog-tags. This store has it all, and more. Major Plowshares even has some adorable baby and children's clothing-not military style-in the store.
Mountain Gift & Powder Co
Mountain Gift & Powder carries baby gifts, delicious-smelling soaps, lotions and powders, handbags, jewelry, and much, much more. Mountain Gift & Powder is also a mini quilt and craft shop carrying and cutting fabrics and offering classes.
Mountain Gift & Powder is a genuine find in the community.
Mc Kenzie's Grille
McKenzie's Grille is fine for breakfast but nothing special. They serve the usual fare. The quality of their pancakes is inconsistent. Sometimes I've been there and they are wonderful, but other times they are crispy.
McKenzie's is also open for lunch. I've never ordered lunch, but my husband has. He's never complained, but he never asks to eat there, either.
A P Smith Restaurant
A P Smith's recently underwent an ownership and menu change. Initially, I was skeptical, but that was before I actually ate there after the changes. There is Indian food on the menu! A first for Saranac Lake, and it's good! Try the new A P Smith's. I don't think you will be disappointed.
