When you're ready to splurge, check out Fifth Floor for a fantastic meal. Check their websites, they have special events like beer pairings and wine tastings that really enhance the fine dining experience. Had an amazing duck dish here and my date had some scrumptious seafood.
It's not cheap to dine here but it's worth it. Great for date night or a foodie "date" with other culinary minded friends. Don't skip on the wine, it makes the meal and the servers can recommend something perfect for your meal.
When this place opened up across the street from me, I was skeptical. I'm know a believer and eat here at least once a week, sometimes twice if I go in for the delicious brunch they just started offering. The veggie quesadilla is to die for. They get their meat from Neiman Ranch - yummy. And the atmosphere is cute, there's enough room to sit down and enjoy the salsa bar with chips.
This is my go-to Mexican place, everyone has one. Taqueria Cancun is nothing fancy but the burritos are packed with the meat of your choice and it's great after you've had one too many drinks, really hits the spot and soaks up your over-consumption of alcohol.
El Rio is a fab on a Monday- you can get your fill of PBR on the cheap. The outdoor section is packed on summer weekends, but get there early and stake your claim for an afternoon bender. This is a beer and shots kind of place and a good spot to have a group meet up for drinks.
Don't expect a lot of love from the bartenders, but the surliness is part of their charm. While it's a primarily lesbian bar, everyone is welcome and I've always felt at home there. The backyard is like something out of a Hemingway novel, little nooks and crannies that you can sit down in and enjoy your beer as long as you don't mind the Indigo Girls sing-a-longs. And I don't.
I'm not sure if it's because our whole party was Caucasian but we got offered mostly fried dishes none of the traditional dim sum. While the food was all very tasty, the atmosphere was loud and we had a long wait. There's so many dim sum places in SF, it's too bad this one has the most word of mouth reputation.
I like to bring out-of-town guests here because it's quaint and the service is always good. I'm a fan of the ice cream, you can't find better frozen treats on the peninsula.
I appreciate the cute names of the cupcake flavors as much as I appreciate the actual flavor. It's a cute store and the selection is always fresh. Great if you have a major sweet tooth but beware, some of the frosting's will send you into a sugar high!
The selection is quite random and sometimes the quality is questionable but it's a dollar store! You can find just about anything in here and it's a good place to pick up favors for a kid's party. I get creative and find stuff to decorate with when I'm entertaining, candles, mugs, and other little things to give guests.
