My husband and I stopped at the Livewire mid-afternoon after driving to the top of Haleakala and before heading back up to Kapalua and found it to be very pleasant spot. Not gimmicky, great cappucinos and excellent oatmeal cookies. They also featured the art of local artists on their walls which we always enjoy. Worth your time!
My husband and I attended Milwaukie Elementary's school auction at the clubhouse at Eastmoreland Golf Course and it was not only a pleasant venue for the auction, the food was good. We both especially enjoyed the teriyaki chicken skewers.
Both of our daughters have had their senior photos taken by Denyce Weiler at Something Blue Photography and she is an amazing photographer! She not only put my girls at ease, she truly captured their individual sparkle and true smiles. You won't be disappointed.
I stopped at Alii Kula Lavender and was pleasantly surprised at what was an efficient and very pleasant operation. Located on the slopes of Haleakala, their views are spectacular and all in all, it was a very pleasant stop. Don't miss the lavender tea and lavender scone!
My husband rented a road bicycle from South Maui Bicycles and was pleased with his experience. He rode two days around West Maui and rode to the top of Haleakala (over 150 road miles) and the bike he rented performed decently. It was a bit odd when he returned the bike and they handed him cleaner and a rag to clean the bike in the parking lot but all in all, a decent experience.
We had a light dinner at the Sea House Restaurant (which is a part of the Napili Kai Beach Resort) choosing three appetizers off their menu. The blue crab bake was delicious and highly recommended as was my Mai Tai (not too sweet). We enjoyed our evening at this spot!
We were referred to Leilani's on the Beach by a friend and my husband's fish tacos were excellent. I ordered mahi mahi that so salt-crusted it was almost inedible. Good people watching and a great location otherwise.
Hawaii is expensive...there is just no getting around it. Friends told us about the Honolua Store which was in walking distance of our hotel. Their plate lunches and breakfasts are excellent and include rice, a meat of some kind (sausage, bacon, spam) and eggs. Lunch plate entrees varied but examples were teriyaki chicken, mahi mahi fish in white sauce, etc. Good, hearty, decent food at an excellent price. Try the spam sushi! It can be found by the cash registers but get there early...they sell out quickly!
Perched on a lava rock on a point overlooking the ocean, Merriman's was our splurge dinner on our last night in Maui and it did not disappoint! With an emphasis on fresh, local ingredients, the restaurant relies on ingredients provided directly by Maui farmers, ranchers and fishermen. Don't miss the puu puu platter and the wine flight offering. Both afford you an opportunity to try outstanding food and wine prior to your main entree. It was a lovely evening!
We stopped at Grandma's Coffee House on our way back from Tedeschi Winery. This tiny wooden coffeehouse is homespun and well loved by locals. The coffee was excellent as was our banana bread and Grandma's proved to be a perfect late afternoon stop. Bonus! We ordered to go their lasagne and pesto pasta with salads to go (see the deli case) and both were excellent for dinner after a busy, fun day of sightseeing. Grandma's was great!
