While on vacation in Tahoe, the chain broke on my mountain bike. I was referred to Olympic Bike Shop to get a new one. I found them to be very helpful, and sympathetic to breaking my bike while on vacation!
They have a huge selection of rental bikes, new bikes, repair parts, clothing and accessories. They have been around for almost 30 years! I would definitely recommend them for any of your cycling needs in the Tahoe / Truckee area.
We went to a birthday party at Speedring, and had an amazing time. I've never been to "Malibu Grand Prix" so I didn't know what to expect. The carts are really fast, and the tight twisting track can be tricky. They have all the necessary safety gear: helmets, neck braces, driving suits, etc. and put you through a comprehensive safety meeting. Then it's off to the races! We had a great time racing each other, sometimes a little harder than we were supposed to... You have to allow faster cars to pass, and you aren't supposed to make contact with other cars, but accidents happen and rubbin' is racing! It's a little expensive, but this is fun you can't have at many places and I thought it was worth every penny. I'll be back for my own birthday, maybe this time they'll let me win.
When we needed fiberglass / gelcoat repairs done to our MasterCraft ski boat last summer, we went to Cope & McPheters Marine. The service technician carefully explained the process that they used to fix the hull, and quoted us a reasonable amount for the repair. They also explained the warranty coverage. The boat was fixed in less then two weeks, and the repair is virtually invisible. I would recommend their trained staff to fix any problem with your boat. The repair facility is in the back, however they also have a large showroom and outdoor lot full of new and used boats for sale. Next door they have a great parts and accessories department, where you can buy everything from maintenance parts to wakeboard towers and accessories. They install everything they sell, so it's a one stop shop if that's what you are looking for.
Happy Cleaners has changed names and staff a few times over the years, but they continue to delivery quality dry cleaning at a reasonable price.
They are pretty much full service, offering cleaning and pressing of clothing items, as well as alterations. They have also been able to do large items, such as our down comforters. They are usually done in a couple of days - sometimes a week for the larger items.
Because of their location (off Harwood on my way to the freeway) they are in a convenient location for me, but it would probably be considered out of the way for anyone not in the neighborhood.
My family and I love Taste of China. The Mongolian beef if fantastic. They are very friendly, and learn your name quickly, which I appreciated. When dining there, my children love to sit near the giant fish in the tank by the door. It makes for a nice distraction while the parents eat in peace.
We have ordered much of the menu over the years, and it has always been good. If you have a large party they even offer you free dessert most of the time.
Take out orders are always ready in 10 minutes, which is about how long it takes to get there - Perfect!
Before we put our pool on a chemical maintenance plan, I tried to do it myself. Unfortunately, I wasn't that dedicated, and our pool turned a horrendous shade of green a couple of times. We called around for someone to come and "shock" the pool, and Mc2 came to help us out. Although they missed the first appointment, they were apologetic, and it really wasn't an issue. They came out and treated the pool, which got rid of the algae in a couple of days. We were happy with the service, and the price wasn't much more than we had paid for the chemicals to do it ourselves the first time I let it go. They also do free water testing in case you aren't sure if your pool water is stable. They have a decent supply of pool cleaners and accessories, replacement parts, chemicals, and so on available for sale.
Royal Pools resurfaced the pool at my house, and built the indoor pool at my parents' house. We bought an ex-rental home with a very neglected pool, and they were able to resurface the plaster, change the tile and coping, and add some mosaics to the bottom of the pool for a very reasonable cost. We contacted a few contractors, but Royal Pools had a better time table for completion, and was highly recommended by my parents. They live in the redwoods, and the decision was made to enclose the pool to protect it from the elements and falling debris. They made several suggestions on how to deal with the difficult property, and because of the difficult slope, most of the pool actually ended up above ground. They worked with us to get the most out of the space, and we are very pleased with the final result. In both cases, they were very courteous and professional. They were able to help us come up with some solutions to deal with cost saving ideas, and I would recommend them for any of your pool needs.
Cask & Flask has a decent selection of the micro brews, and the prices are comparable to the grocery store. They also have pretty good prices on hard alcohol as well.
The guys behind the counter are fairly knowledgeable and are able to make recommendations regarding the beer and wine they sell.
I have been to this liquor store a few times but on average they just aren't any cheaper than the grocery store. The sales are okay, but again nothing special. If all you need is alcohol or tobacco products, it might be worth avoiding the lines at Safeway.
We have been going to Dr Booth for about 4 years now. She is an amazing chiro, and has become much more like a friend than a doctor. She has made my chronic back pain so much better, and has also been able to take care of my children whenever they suffered a sports injury.
She is not a pusher of the "maintenance program" so common these days, she just wants the patient to feel better. Amazing concept, but one that I respect a great deal.
I have had other chiropractors, but I won't be changing again anytime soon!
