Sam Woo BBQ is your classic and very popular Chinese meat deli and restaurant. Roast duck and crispy skin roast pork hang inside. All sorts of Chinese delights are steaming in pans. You can also order take out at the deli bar while the bbq man cuts your roast meat for you as you like. The restaurant menu has all your basics like noodles and soups and stir fry dishes. I love the chow fun dry style. Reasonably priced but cash only.
SALSA! Even if you don't really know how to too well! You won' be able to help yourself. The floor is so crowded no one will notice your moves or non-moves! What is better than being surrounded by sexy dancing people with live latin music?
I found Stoney Point to be a blast from the past but not so much in a great way. I think you may like it if you are a regular and hang out there. It seems like a neighborhood hang out that is not seedy and is comfortable and familiar...but it seems a lot of gray haired people dine and drink there, so it is an older crowd. The food was just ok. Parking and area nice though.
Whenever I am shopping in East Pasadena I stop and have lunch here. It is lovely. The decor is gorgeous and the food excellent. And I am Chinese so I should know good Chinese food! My favorite is the walnut shrimp. Deep fried shrimp in a mayo-based sauce with crunchy sweet glazed walnuts. The lunch specials are always a deal too. AND, their fortune cookies have white and dark chocolate on them! They are wrapped in pretty deep colored foil in reds, purples etc. I actually ordered some for a baby shower to put on the tables as favors bc they are sooooo delicious. Service always on point and friendly.
When I first moved to the neighborhood, I ate here a lot bc I love Thai food and it was so close. It is average Thai and Chinese food. Their delivery on the day I ordered took FOREVER, but I am a pretty impatient person. I think it was over 45 min. You are safe if you go for pad thai noodles, but a few times the meat dishes there were not good--chewey old meat. It is an older place with not much non-cheesy old decor. I do however, think it is DECENT so you would not necessarily be disappointed by your meal.
Zinnia is the cutest sunniest artsy crafty stationary store with a ton of items to inspire your next martha stewart project! Zinnia has a list of classes/workshops that they hold there like mixed media and jewelry making. Local artist have their works displayed on the walls. Stickers, stamps, mini figurines, cards, books and paper abound with mobiles and other handmade inspirations around.
This place has been here forever and not bc any bells and whistles decor wise--it's just all about good food here. Kingston Cafe is in a house and the rooms you eat in have not been converted much. The jerk chicken is excellent and served with delicious sweet plantains. Rice is fluffy and perfect. Try it, you'll be back.
Coffee is good, and I am a very picky coffee drinker! Sandwiches available and good pastries. Very comfortable and rich atmosphere. Rarely over-crowded--a nice place to relax and have a coffee and/or snack.
Oh my favorite to get breakfast or lunch before I hit the beach! They have salad plates where you can pick 2-3 of the gourmet fresh salads they have in their case. And of course they have baked good galore. Another perk is the super artsy fun little gift store they have in a corner. Great cards etc.
Book'em is owned and run by a very nice couple and is a great book store specializing in mysteries. If you need help finding a book they are very service-oriented and will assist you and are knowledgeable in their world of mystery books!
