Omogari's is a new addition to San Jose's Japantown. There's very limited seating inside and my family of four had to wait 15 minutes before we got our seat, but one whiff of what they're serving up and you will realize it's worth the wait.
The seafood pancake appetizer ($12.95) was huge w/ green onions, calamari, fish, and other goodies. It comes with a vinegar dipping sauce which was a great combination.
We also had the bim bim bop, the clear noodles with beef, and BBQ chicken.
It was sooo much food for 4, but we finished it all :) Highly recommended!
Oh, and free ice cream for dessert :) :)
My friend Melissa and I had lunch here today during our valley fair / santana row shopping spree!
She told me about their great lunch specials and wow, what a deal!
For $8, you can choose a dish from a list including spicy thai fried rice, ginger chicken, panang curry, pad kee mau, massuman curry and then choose your choice of meat: chicken, pork, or tofu. I think beef was more expensive. Curry and saucy dishes come with rice. All dishes come with salad w/ honey mustard dressing, a tofu and onion soup, and a spring roll.
It was such a great deal and good, fresh food :) Friendly service too!
I went to Dr. Liu for the first time yesterday after being referred to him by my primary care physician. I have been worried about my progressing near-sighted-ness and I wanted to see a specialist before I'm off to law school and staring at books for 14 hours a day :p
I was first examined by an optometrist who numbed (?) and dilated my eyes and wrote me a new prescription. She was really, really nice and answered all of my questions.
Then, I saw Dr. Liu who checked my eye muscles and shined more lights in my eyes. He also was very helpful and is completely fluent in both English and Chinese. He was very reassuring, answered my questions, and I didn't feel rushed at all.
An overall very good experience at the eye doctor's.
I used to think Thai Basil in Asian Ghetto was good... but after trying Thai Noodle, Thai Basil was ancient history :P
I loveee their coconut-based broth soup and their pad kee mau is soooo delicious :) Lots of egg, tofu, and broccoli yum :)
Their red curry is also great as are their duck items. I miss this place!!
My family eats at fatima's like onceee a week. It's one of our all time favorite chinese restaurants. The food isn't too greasy or salty and the staff is always nice and friendly :)
We always order...
Lamb with leek (the best thing here!)
Green onion pancake w/ sesame seed
tofu casserole (with egg and brown sauce)
mushu w/ egg on top
These items are my favvvvvv. Yummmm :) :)
The Fish Market is expensive and their food is notttt exciting at all. It's too simple for my taste and I agree that simplicity can be a good thing at times, but this is just tooo simple. We're talking a small slab a fish, some grilled veggies, and cold sourdough bread. The fish is cooked well... but make it more interesting!
The best thing here are the mahi mahi wasabi sliders on their lunch menu. They are TINY but SOOO GOOD and flavorful :)
Cafe Delatti is special for one very important reason... wait for it... for just one dollar... you get ....UNLIMITED toppings. WOOHOO! :)
The froyo tastes pretty good... nice and tart and they have four sizes: mini, small, medium, and large. I had their original tart, but they also offered vanilla, chocolate, lemon, and pomegranate.
Their toppings are standard... mango, pineapple blueberries, kimi, strawberries, sprinkles, granola, mochi... you know... the uj :)
Sigh. Where to start with this place.
My friends and I got all gussied up and picked a spot that we thought was a little dressier than the usual nightclubs that we go to.
The first thing to notice is that there is an extremely long line to get into this place. But, once you get passed that the interior is actually pretty cool. The lighting was low and the bar was well stocked. There are big couches to sit on, but you have to pay for a table to sit there. Sad, but typical.
The other thing about this place is that the crowd is not diverse. At all. I think other people who go here can agree with that.
The drinks are very expensive, but again, we picked a more "swanky" place I guess so that was to be expected.
This club is divided into a bar on the first floor and a dance floor on the second. The weird thing is, they play music SO loud on the top floor that it is absolutely impossible to hold a conversation. Isn't that the point of the drinks and table set-up? I think that was the most annoying part about this place... how loud it was.
The downstairs dance floor is long and narrow, like a cellar with a really low ceiling. That's kind of cool in its own way, but narrow quarters and a low ceiling = hot as hell. The DJ was pretty lame too.
This place is a rip-off and is not well set-up for a cool chill spot nor a great place to dance.
Freshly made, fake asian food. Everything tastes kind of sweet like fake asian food usually does. It's cheap, it's busy, it's hip, and the food tastes good, but don't expect authenticity!
I went to Solano Bar & Grill for my Dad's birthday with my family and everyone loved, loved what they ordered! I chose this restaurant because the menu is very extensive, the prices are good, and I wanted an unpretentious and comfortable atmosphere. I would say this place definitely fit what I was looking for.
The best part about this restaurant is that the menu features all of the favorites: steak, chicken, lamb, duck, fish, and pasta, along with some specialty dishes. Everyone should be able to find something to fit their tastes. Here's a link to the dinner menu: http://www.solanogrill....
I ordered the seafood paella and it was very filling and well prepared.
Plus, the prices are good and the portions are decent.
My only complaints would be the decor in the restaurant looks like it hasn't been updated for a while and we didn't have very good service. The carpet is pretty threadbare and our waitress would disappear for long periods of time. But to be fair, I came on the 100th birthday of the city of Albany, so they had a lot of people eating outside that needed to be taken care of.
I will definitely want to come back!
