I shop at the Safeway on College once a week and it definitely has its pros and cons.
The best thing about this grocery store is that it is so conveniently located. I feel like it's some sort of hub for grocery shoppers in south side Berkeley. It's super easy to get to on the 51 bus even though I drive. It's also open 24 hours.
And, one time during finals I just did not have time to go shopping so I ordered my groceries online! Sure, the website doesn't offer nearly as much selection as you get in store, but it was good enough for me. The man even carried my groceries up my apartment stairs and set them in front of the door for me. Now that's service! :)
Unfortunately, I feel like this Safeway is way too small and lacking in offerings for the amount of people who shop here. It's strange to me to find items that I want sold out!!! It's almost like I need to make sure to go early in the day so my favorite items will still be there. There's also no real bakery! This pains me, a girl with an insatiable sweet tooth :).
Anyhow, I'm definitely spoiled with my Safeway back home. They recently renovated and it has a beautiful interior and it's huge.
I really hope this Safeway can expand or something even though it would be hugely disruptive for so many customers. I think it'd be worth it!
Mel and her bf Griffin and I ate dinner here. We ordered the Ahi Poke for $11 (yeah... more Poke!) and a couple orders of Spam Masubi ($2.50). It was my first time eating spam. It's salty and delicious and when wrapped up in some sushi rice and seaweed it is the perfect combination.
Emperor of India has a great lunch buffet. I remember eating dinner here a la carte maybe once and it was good, but the buffet remains the main reason why I come here.
The restaurant is very clean and the decor makes the place look a bit more upscale.
The lunch buffet is large with a lot of meat and veggie options. The standard chicken curry, the tandoori chicken, the saag, and the veggie korma are very tasty. But, there are always varying and new stuff to try that never fail to satisfy! And any Indian buffet that allows me to eat as much gulab jamun as I want gets 4 stars in my book.
For dinner, their lamb korma and hydrabadi chicken are TO DIE FOR. Oh yeah, and definitellyyy order the basket of mixed naan. The garlic naan and the onion naan are sooo good that sometimes I just eat them plain without dipping them in my curry :)
John's Garden Cafe is a lunch spot that serves soups, burgers, and sandwiches. They have a big selection of chips and drinks and sunny outdoor tables for you to eat on. Mel had the shrimp salad sandwich & the honey lemonade (all very yummy) and I had the curry lentil & tomato soup w/ the $8 fruit salad. But the fruit salad is huge. It has strawberries, papaya, honey dew, cantalope, bananas, & pineapple with yogurt, coconut, and almonds on top. I could not say no. Ooh and it's also a good place for some celebrity sitings. Mel and I saw John Slattery!
Mel and I were really craving some good Mexican food and we tried to research really hard. We finally settled on Los Arroyos. I think we both really liked this place. The food isn't too heavy and they have a great salsa bar... but they don't offer free chips! My entree also didn't come with rice and beans! :( But, I was still full afterward so I guess it was okay. Mel had the steak burrito mojado and I had Tony's Alambres (a mixture of cooked peppers, onions, chicken, steak, tomatoes, and cheese on three corn tortillas). My entree was kind of like an open faced sandwich...but an open faced...burrito? It was tasty. And their horchata is really yummy. Tastes like melted ice cream with cinnamon. Yummy :). I swear there has to be a better Mexican restaurant in SB though...
I've been going to Lin for over a year now and she's great. Super friendly and her salon is nice and clean.
The main reason why I go to her is because of the very reasonable prices and the results of course!
I just got my hair highlighted again and I'm very satisfied. I told her to do the highlights ultra thin and they are so natural looking and almost multi-tonal! She also cuts my really long hair very well. She gives me great layers and my hair is very manageable.
The cut cost $16 and the highlights cost $62. Not bad compared to so many other places!
My whole family are patrons of this place! So reasonable for such nice results :D
Free breakfast & free wireless internet. They also have a DVD player and you can borrow DVDs from the front desk (they have a wide selection of new releases). Mel and I decided to take advantage of the DVD player and we watched When Harry Met Sally (I loved it) and Babel (it was just okay). We rented these DVDs from Blockbuster, though, because we had seen most of the ones offered at the front desk. The mattresses were soft and the inn is a bit far from the main State street downtown area, but you can't beat the price!
I love this restaurant. Everytime I come to Santa Barbara I eat here. I was introduced to Pascucci's by a friend and native of SB and it's always popular and busy. I highly recommend the baked brie, roasted garlic, candied walnuts, and pear appetizer ($9.95). The entrees are all great too. Mel ordered a pasta dish w/ chicken, tomatoes, and a rosemary cream sauce and I had the almond-encrusted baked chicken w/ a creamy sauce & capers. This place is so cute on the inside too! Oh and free cheesy garlic bread w/ refills! Pinkberry for dessert is also within walking distance. Yum yum yum!
Wow, dinner here was a FANTASTIC experience. The food was absolutely delicious.
Each dish has wonderful flavors and is reasonably priced at about $8-9 per dish. My family of course ate family style and everyone really enjoyed it.
When you see this place from the outside, you don't expect very much, but on the inside the walls are painted a trendy apple green and it's quite cozy as it is very small. Service is prompt and there are many awards and accolades proudly hanging on their wall (which they truly deserve!)
We ordered the mixed lotus root, mango, & papaya salad, the combo vermicelli, and the catfish claypot. For dessert, their grilled banana cake (grilled sweet rice and banana served with coconut milk & roast nuts). It was so moist and to die for!
Mel and I ordered fish tacos. I got the grilled salmon taco and she ordered the mahi mahi taco. This place offers a wide variety of food - burgers, tacos, chowders, pizzas, and pastries. It seemed really popular with the students of Cal Poly. Good cheap eats!
