Pause
Pause is the epitome of a coffee shop. They brew Intelligensia coffee (yum), and offer up all of the lattes, cappucinos and teas as their corporate counterpart. It's a great place to think, write, hanging out, people watching by the red line...
Grotto (The)
I love the Grotto. They have a great selection of wine, and the servers are always spot on with their suggestions. Great tapas too, from flank steak to fondue.
Wave Thai
Tiny Thai place. Same menu you would expect at any Thai place, but what makes Wave Thai worth visit is the decor. Just adorable. I recommend the green curry and lychee juice.
The Cloister Cafe
Sit in the garden, order up some drinks, and chill out. I honestly can't remember what I ordered to eat, because the champagne was so cheap, but whatever it was I really liked it. Service isn't great, but it works when you just want to be left alone, and they'll let you hang out until you want to leave. Desserts were amazing!
Svea Restaurant
Absolutely adorable! What Svea lacks in square footage, it makes up for with charm. Great brunch spot, try the Swedish pancakes with ligon berries. Prices are great, so go ahead and order that side of sausage AND the extra scrambled egg...On the down side, there is no place to wait for a table, which you might have to do.
Mike's Diner
How can I express my love for Mike's? Exactly what I want out of a diner--open 24/7, decent service (who won't bat a lash when you order a beer with your pancakes), tons of options. I personally love that they have different breakfast combos like the "Irish breakfast", "Mediterranean breakfast", etc. Oh, and they deliver in the area. Take the N to the end, and you'll find Mike's.
43rd Street Deli-Breakfast House
43rd St. has the BEST brunch menu that I have ever seen, hands down. The regular menu has great scrambles, omlettes, pancakes and the like, but they also always have a HUGE list of specials. And boy are they special. Vegan pan-seared oatmeal...Banana nut bread French toast...Veggie benedicts...great if you like lotsa meat, or if you don't touch animal products. They also feature some great coffees. Check it out!
Top
My number one restaurant and bar in Gville. Great place if you are an herbivore, omnivore OR carnivore, the menu is always diverse and satisfying. I second the corn nuggets and sweet potato fries as a must-have. The decor alone makes it a fun place to hang out, plus they are generous with the wine.
Tweet Let's Eat
Any time I have a lazy Saturday, I head to Tweet. The menu is diverse--a little something for everyone, from the mega meat eater to the vegetarian. The portions are huge, but the price is small! I also really like that they often give you an abuse-bouche, which makes me feel pretty fancy. Even if you have to wait for a table, you probably won't mind sitting at the Big Chicks bar, passing the time drinking coffee or a cocktail and looking at the fabulous artwork. Tweet is tops!
Big Chicks
My husband and I love going to Big Chicks and here's why: the servers and bartenders are so awesome and make everyone feel at home; they have great food specials ($1 burger Mondays!); they play my favorite mix of 80s pop and indie rock; the artwork is entertaining; it's just so comfortable. Give it a try!
