Hollywood Hookah Lounge
This place is horrible! The hookah was disgusting. The people who work here need to learn a thing or two about packing a bowl. Its a nice place, but don't let that fool you. The service was very bad and the waiters should be fired.
The DJ had no idea what he was doing. From the time I got there until the time I left, I heard the same song 4 times. There was also a big screen where they projected music videos... but they were from youtube, and you could see the guy changing the video each time one of them ended.
I will never go back here again.
Eduardo's Border Grill
Eduardo's Border Grill is the #1 Spot for Mexican food in West LA.
Better than Chipotle. Better than Chronic Tacos. Better than Taco Bell, and of course Better than Baja Fresh. Eduardo's is simply the best.
My favorite item on the menu is the Border Burrito which is huge! It comes with everything a burrito is supposed to have + FREE GUAC!! ...Take that, Chipotle!
Something else that makes this place great is their Salsa Bar. All of the Salsa's are made fresh and are very delicious. There is a Mango Salsa which is very sweet and tastes great with the Border Burrito.
They also have a good selection of drinks, including Cactus Cooler. I haven't had Cactus Cooler in years until I stepped inside Eduardo's.
Unfortunately they only accept cash, but thats OK because their food is amazing!
I recommend Eduardo's Border Grill to all lovers of Mexican Food.
Ice Pan Inc
Ice Pan gets 5 stars for:
Having delicious ice cream
Making the actual ice cream right in front of you
Being super friendly
Having great flavors and toppings
I think everyone should try this place! So much better than Coldstone.
Menchie's Frozen Yogurt
I'm not into these trendy yogurt shops that keep popping up everywhere (Pinkberry, Yogurtland, etc..). But I can definitely say Menchie's is the King in the land of Fro-Yo. The flavors actually taste good (unlike Yogurtland), and the toppings are always fresh. The inside is large and has enough space to handle a long line (Unlike Pinkberry). There is indoor and outdoor seating. They also have a large chalkboard for children to draw on.
The best flavors were the Strawberry-Kiwi, the Cookies n' Cream, Pomegranate Tart, and the New York Cheesecake. Stay away from the Mango Tango flavor!!
Something that makes Menchie's unqiue is the fact that they offer Free Wi-Fi !!
I heard they are opening a new location soon in Beverly Hills and I'm really excited about that.
I hope Menchie's makes Yogurtland go out of business!
Living Room Coffeehouse
Bad Hookah, Bad Service, Bad atmosphere, just bad bad bad! San Diego does not know how to run a proper hookah lounge! The staff is rude, the music was bad... I don't know how anyone can enjoy this place.
Yamato Restaurant
Yamato is one of my favorite restaurants ever! From the the first time I had dinner there I've become obsessed. My server, Pim, was very friendly and I always ask for her. The food is above average compared to other Japanese restaurants I have been to, and the prices are unbelievable low. My friends and I often go here for dinner and sake bombing and we always have a great time.
My favorite item on the menu is the 911 Roll. It is the only menu item that I MUST order every time I go to Yamato. Besides that, I try to order different things each time just so I can try other foods.
On Saturday nights there is a live DJ in the corner by the entrance who plays House music (I swear they can turn this place into a club haha).
The prices are always low due to their Happy Hour which seems to be permanent. I don't think I have ever been there at a time when it wasn't happy hour... and I'm there all the time!
Recently, I was offered a Yamato Lunch Club Card which is basically an "exclusive" club for people who go to Yamato for lunch all the time. You get a stamp for every time you eat lunch and when you have 9 stamps you get 1 free lunch. This applies only to entree items which is anything thats not included in Happy Hour.
The only thing I don't like is the fact that they charge for spicy mayo and eel sauce! However, that hasn't stopped me from going there every week.
I love Yamato and recommend it to anyone who wants great tasting sushi, sake, or sashimi thats affordable and won't burn a hole in your wallet!
Socko's Subs
I love Socko's. They have great subs, great service, and low prices as well. It is right next to Diddy Riese, the cookie place, so it is perfect for UCLA students. They deliver on all orders and can even bring you cookies from next door!
The people who work there are really friendly and make the sandwich's lightning fast. My favorite items on the menu are the Jersey Joe, Kareem Abdul Jabeef, The Gilmore, and my favorite one Stettler's Choice.
It is never crowded there which makes it good for people who are short on time.
Diddy Riese Cookies
Diddy Riese definitely gets 5 stars! This is the 928th review so by now you should all know what this place is about. Cookies, Brownies, Ice Cream, Ice Cream Sandwiches, Hawaiian Shaved Ice, and a lot more!
All of their Cookies and Brownies are freshly baked, so you know you are getting quality dessert. The prices are cheap as hell too... $1.50 for an Ice cream sandwich, or $1.00 for 3 of their amazing cookies. My favorite ones are Chocolate Chip, White Chocolate w/ Macademia, and Candy. The brownies are also above average. They have plain brownies and brownies with walnuts, and both just melt in your mouth.
On some nights, the line for Diddy Riese can almost go to the end of the block. People have waited up to 20 minutes just for an Ice Cream Sandwich. Diddy Riese is definitely worth the wait.
If you haven't been there before, drop whatever you are doing and go right now!
Chosun Galbee Restaurant
Probably the best Korean restaurant I've been to. I went there about a year ago for a friends birthday and we got a private room in the back. It was a pretty cool room and there was a stove built in to our table so we can watch the food cook in front of us. The restaurant looked pretty clean and did not have that nasty smell that other Korean restaurants have.
There was a button on the table that you can push to call the waitress over which my friends were having a little too much fun with. The waitress turned out to be really nice and brought us everything we asked for on time.
The prices were a little higher compared to other places but well worth it.
The VIP private room made me feel like an important business man on a meeting for the Korean mafia.
Chosun Galbee was a really cool place and I will definitely go back.
I recommend it for people who want a legit Korean BBQ.
Bowlmor Santa Monica
This place kinda sucks. My friends and I usually go bowling at Pinz in the valley, but decided to try AMF since it was close.
From the moment I walked in, I knew it was going to be bad. The place was so ghetto! Everything looked old and dirty. The tiles on the ceiling were discolored and some of them looked like they were falling off. There was a light-up sign for the womens bathroom which had a cracked case and the light kept flickering on and off. (Someone forgot to pay the electricity bill).
The only good thing about AMF was the unlimited bowling deal they had. The deal was $21 per person and you can play as many times as you want from 11PM-2AM. At first I thought it would be fun to play unlimited games, but after I saw the bowling shoes I changed my mind. The shoes smelled bad and I felt disgusted by putting my feet in them.
After taking a few minutes to decide whether we should stay or not, my friend and I came up with a plan to scum the bowling alley and make our own deal, 2-for-1.
We split the $21 price and got one pair of shoes and one wristband. Since I was wearing long sleeves, I gave the wristband to my friend and put the shoes on myself. After we set up the game and put our names into the computer, there was a security guard (who looked like he hated his job) going around to check that everyone was wearing a wristband and shoes. He was looking from far away and couldn't really see us, but kept glancing over every couple of minutes. My friend and I decided to take turns and switch the shoes each time. After a while the security guard went away and we just wore our own shoes and put the bowling shoes away.
We played about 4 games with our 2-for-1 deal and swore never to come back to AMF again!
Besides the unlimited bowling, everything about it sucked!
I recommend anyone who wants to go bowling to NOT go to AMF, and instead go to Lucky Strike Lanes in Hollywood or Downtown, or even Pinz in the valley.
