I have been banking here for at least 8 years now. I love that the bank is never crowded and all the tellers are familiar with me. If I have a problem, I can call and talk to a person instead of a machine. I can also bank online, as their online service is getting more and more updated. They have several tools online which help with things like finding a used car, or a loan. I refinanced my HELOC with them, and their interest rate has been decreasing. If you live in Torrance, it isn't difficult to open an account with them.
We usually get Dr. Muchnick when Dr. Anderson is filled up on an emergency day. He seems a little grumpy at first, but he's a caring doctor with plenty of wisdom up his sleeve. Where a younger doctor may not know, I usually trust that Dr. Muchnick will give us the answer.
What can I say that people don't already know about Baskin-Robbins.. I know one of the family members! He owns his own record label :) .. Well, all the ice cream is good especially if there are bananas in it. Now, go get a scoop and dance to some music from Robbins Entertainment. (I wrote a song for one of his artsts)
The best thing about this restaurant was the host.. Robbie. He won't let you forget. He had a very warm personality and made you want to come back just to talk to him.
I've eaten at other Indian restaurants so in comparison, this was not as good. The portions were small for the price, and not as tasty as expected. Good place to try once.
Having a Brazilian mom, it is difficult to find places to eat that match home cooking. By Brazil comes close. Great buffet and churrasco. A little pricey, but what isn't these days. The atmosphere gives it a nice small nook restaurant with an eclectic feel. Check out the art work by independent artists on the wall. Try the Guarana soda. My favorite!
I got my hair cut for the first time in about 5 years here. We should have done a before and after photo. I looked younger and it lasted for at least two weeks before my gray started showing again. They have live music on Wednesday nights, and the salon is clean and contemporary. They offer drinks, and there is a juice bar next door with great smoothies to drink while you wait. I had to wait a little, but it was worth it.
I love coming to JJ Bakery to grab a snack. They don't just have cakes and cookies.. they have very unique pastries such as tuna stuffed breads and such. I've purchased birthday cakes from them. My favorite was the Mango Mousse. It was a classy cake topped with fruit with a light cake and whipped cream icing. So light and not too sweet. Children love it!
In December of last year, I was fortunate to be selected to participate in The Outdoor Room with the good looking Jamie Durie. My old grass battered backyard got the makeover our family needed.
During the filming, I noticed a driveway full of lush bamboo, magnolias and many others to be planted in the new backyard I had not yet seen. They were all labeled with the "Monrovia Nursery" tags. The giant Monrovia truck pulled up with these beautiful plants and carefully left them for the magic.
It is now February, and the plants are still there and thriving. I had a little trouble with the bamboo, which looked like they might not make it, but these past rains have since revived them. I'm hoping to see new leaves soon.
The most exciting plants in the backyard are the two tiny fig trees with fruit. They are beginning to sprout and I can't wait to taste the delicious fruit.
I would estimate that I received at least 20 new species of sustainable plants in my new backyard.
Stay tuned to watch the episode of this makeover in March of 2010. You'll see me and my three children here in Torrance, excitedly experiencing our once in a lifetime makeover. The Ojai experience!
