Oohhhh.....if you love bread (and my family does), the O'Brien's Boulangerie has some of the best baguettes around. My family doesn't rate bakeries by their desserts, no, we're a family of bread addicts. The deliciousness of their breads can't be adequately described....it must be experienced by the senses to be fully appreciated. Yummy, yum, yum!
Affordable Hair Extensions by foot! I've been researching hair extensions for several weeks and have come to understand the differences in hair, texture, coloring and application. I thought Great Lengths was on the costly side, but this place - it takes the cake! Almost $6000 is what they'll charge you for long blonde extensions. Affordable - for whom? They brag they're the best, that the owner is the only one in her industry that understands coloring extensions - puh-leeze. They're extensions for heavens sakes! Stay with your celebrity clients and leave the rest of the unsuspecting world alone, but please don't insult us by claiming you are affordable. For most of the population, you're not.
When I'm in the area, I'll pop into Martha's Bakery to pick up some rolls for my family. The aroma of the place is enough to make me salivate as I walk up to the door. I'm practically drooling by the time I'm inside. I've only ever gotten bread from Martha's but their pastries and cakes look incredibly inviting as wel.
I actually don't like getting my hair cut, but it's a necessity at times. Cut is a strong word; what I get is a trim. I tried Salon Mirror Mirror just because they're so close to us. I thought the ambiance of the salon was okay. They seated me right away and the stylist was very polite. I told her what I wanted and she did it. She gave me some pointers on how to style my hair (after I asked) and was very informative when I asked for her opion on styling products.
I went to the Uptown New York Style salon to get my hair done for a photo shoot I had. I needed to get an updo at the last minute and didn't want to try it on my own. I called the salon, explained my situation and they told me to head over. They really specialize in weaves and extensions, but they did a marvelous job on my updo and made me camera worthy. It was definitely a gamble, but they did a great job.
I stumbled upon Studio Savvy when I was looking for a diffuser, but found a gem of a colorist instead. I went in looking for the diffuser for my daughter and had to wait a few minutes for anyone to acknowledge me. During that time, I took a look around and was watching the work being done. One lady was just heading back to a station after being rinsed and I was immediately intrigued by her hair. By that time, they had noticed me and told me if I could wait a few minutes, they could help me. I continued to watch the woman with the wet hair get dried and couldn't help but overheard the conversation. She had gone from brunette to blonde - and it looked good! I love getting my hair colored and was so impressed, I booked an appointment (I too was brunette looking to go blonde for the summer). All I can say, it was fate for me to be in there when I was. I went in looking for a diffuser - I found my colorist for life.
To get hair extensions or not to get hair extensions....that is the question. I've often thought about getting them. My hair is about shoulder length, but on the fine side. I've always wanted thick, gorgeous, luxurious hair, but the family genes had a different idea. After my friend got them for her wedding, I was having some hair envy. I began looking around and inquired with Extensions & Style's By Linda as to what was involved. Maybe it was an off day when I went in, but the people I spoke to didn't seem very interersted in answering any questions and almost looked like I was bothering them. I'll give them that the salon was moderately busy - but not so much that they couldn't at least answer a couple of questions. I was told they would only speak to me if I booked a consultation that was going to cost $100 which would be applied to the final cost of the extensions. I wasn't going to commit to anything based off of their rude behavior and unwillingness to answer a few simple questions.
I ran into the Nicola Salon to see if they had any diffusers for my daughter. This is a small salon that was pretty busy when I went in. They didn't have the diffuser, but did carry a couple of products I normally use that were on sale. My daughter didn't win out that day, but I did! I may go back and try out their services next time.
My husband and son went to Rocco's Hair Design for haircuts. They had never been there before but had been give a recommendation for it. When they arrived home, both of them looked so handsome! My husband said he liked the salon and he liked the guy who cut their hair. My son was happy (shocking!) and said the guy was cool and listened to what he wanted. Both of my men looked very handsome.
I'm a firm believer in not aging gracefully and plan to fight it at every turn. :) I'm not into plastics yet, but while it's still a viable option, I'm all into dermal fillers. I've been getting Restylane for about a year or so and love the difference it makes. I had some second thoughts about the place where I had it done the last time, so I was on the search for a new med-spa. I found Just Skin through a friend in the know and booked my appointment. I was very happy with my overall experience and will more than likely go back next year when I need another injection.
