Macy's in New York City is a tourist location, Well known through out the world. All out of towners want to visit this department store giant and purchase at least a key chain to say they were there. This location is actually their Flag Ship Store, and used to be the largest store in the world for many years. You can buy clothing, jewelry, electronics, cosmetics, housewares, the list goes on. As far as pricing I consider this store a mid-range level department store.
The best time of year at this store is during the holiday months. They put up beautiful, phenomenal window displays and decorations inside the store. This location has a Starbucks and McDonalds. For the ladies, check out the stockings section, they have a large variety. I love their ample selection.
If you are visiting from out of state, even if it is New Jersey or Connecticut, make sure you stop by the customer care office and show them your State ID. This will grant you a 10% savings on your purchase.
If you are a Bargain Hunter this is your place. Filene's Basement has been around forever. This store is a basement giant on discount clothing for all. You can find clothing for men, women and kids. They also have shoes, handbags, home goods, jewelry, and accessories. All designer brands at an unbelievably marked down price. Yes you are getting last season??s goods but you can be sure that you are purchasing quality items. This location embarks all of a street block, it is huge. Located in a prime location in the Upper West Side it is very convenient to get to. Though the staff is friendly, they can be a little more knowledgeable about the merchandise they sell and represent.
Check out their website, there is a fan club that you can become a member of, totally free, and get extra discounts from the already reduced prices.
When you think of Starbucks what comes to mind is drink, unwind, chat, get some work done, snack....etc. You are catching my drift here, eh. Well Not at this location, it is not great at all. The staff is not as professional and friendly as other locations in the city. There is one particular barista that always seems to be having a bad day. He serves with a nasty attitude. And don't bother telling them that your drink is not up to par. You are better off going to another location and have them remake the drink. This location is such a small place, they do not have comfortable seating.
And let me say, I Love Starbucks! For the summer time the Mocha Coconut Fraps are amazingly delicious. In the winter time I like to dive into a Caramel Machiato. Yum Yummy.
If you are in the area Don't Bother going to 27th and 6th.
Go down on 6th ave to 24th and you will receive the costumer service that you deserve. The staff here are Awesome and there is plenty of seating space.
I love books, love to read and Strands is a Bookstore with a wide range of selections. You don't have to be a book worm to like this store. They sell it all. Books for Everyone, no matter your interest. They have the popular books. They have the books that no-one else carries. The hard to find books, new or used. For the most part, the used books they sell are in great reading condition. They have $1 racks, if you happen to have a thesis to write on something old, you can get ideas and information from these books without spending much money on something you will only use that one time. I love coming here and spending time browsing. They have a good collection of educational books for teachers, parents and children. If I ever decide to home school my child I know I can count on Strands for the academic material that I will need. I picked up a large US map, about 42"x50" that has an adhesive to stick on the wall. It allows my little one to fill in with an erasable marker the name of the states, its capital and each states abbreviation. It is also easy to peel off. I saw other educational stick on that are priced right and I plan on returning to purchase. Strands always have competitive prices to other major bookstores. It truly is a place to get lost in and fall in Love...
The Authority of Sporting Goods with stores all over the nation. These people have been around for some time and they have spread like wild flower doing their best at dressing up Americans to getting fit. This store is a very large location on 6th Avenue. With so many shops in the area, this store is kept busy but the lines are never too long. Their prices are very competitive and the staff are okay. They sell all major sports brands and they have their own line as well. It's amazing how they cover all sports, any sport you can think of they sell gear and equipment for it. Every sport imaginable they got you covered. I mean even games for the lawn or if you plan to have a rec room. I like to take a look at their weekly ads to see what deals they may have that might benefit me. You can get it in the Sunday Paper or online.
I think this location has been designed very well. With the men clothing upstairs they have their own dressing rooms and a large variety of tops and bottoms. They are pretty good at keeping you up to date with the latest seasonal styles. And their sale racks are great buys. The ladies clothing are downstairs and the space seems to be larger with different sections. They carry a limited amount of shoe selections but they are often placed on sale quickly. There is a dressing room downstairs as well, which makes it very convenient. Registers are on both floors and for the most part they are opened at all times on both floors. It??s also cool that they have two entrances. I like going out the one that is located on the side, because sometimes this store can get packed and there is always that less congested outlet if you please. They have an elevator at this location, which provides accessibility to wheelchairs. There are restrooms, but occasionally no hand towels. I have always liked Banana Republic especially for their white tops. White tops are so necessary and they have great casual tops that are made well.
They call this an urban barbeque restaurant but I think that what you get here is Rich Home Down Southern BBQ Flavors. So delicious. Actually, I am not clear on what urban bbq means but thats what they call themselves. Either way, you get delicious BBQ food and you will want to come back with all your friends. Great place for some cornbread with barbequed ribs after a long day of work with an iced cold beer on a hot summer evening. If you prefer not to eat pork you can try their beef briskets, smoked turkey or their BBQ chicken wings. Absolutely tasty and messy. You don't have to be intimidated if your going on a first date though. Ladies, you can actually pull it off on a first date if you eat with a fork and knife. But if you prefer to enjoy getting your grub on with this kind of food, then you might want to save it for when you guys have let your guards down. Just saying.
Rub BBQ offers take out and catering.
Pret a Manger at 36 & 5th Ave is a really nice spot to stop for a quick lunch. And let me mention healthy as well. It is very busy but not crowded, at least it doesn't feel crowded. Maybe because of the design of this chain... Wide, airy feel to its design. It is very busy but not crowded; at least it doesn't feel crowded. When you first walk in it is a large open space with seating bar all around the window. Towards the back of the store there is a dining area with family style seating. Restrooms are decent, clean which is important.
The sandwiches here are freshly prepared and pre packaged. You can get them on wraps, whole wheat, rye, baguette, you name it. If you are looking for hot food they have oven baked wraps, which are delicious. My favorite is the Italian Mozzarella with Pesto. Yummy. Aside from sandwiches you can get soups, salads, hot and cold drinks year round.
This Natural Fresh Fast Food Chain is super cool and very much needed in America. A healthy alternative to other fast food chains.
Hip, funky, free flowing is what comes to mind when I think of Anthropologie. The styles you will find here is different from others. The clothes make a woman feel beautiful without having to try too hard. The dresses are my favorite, great pattern and beautiful styles. Even their accessories sets them apart.
This store is fantastic and you will want to spend time here. I like the presentation here, it is a very spacious store and the service is Awesome. All their stores are awesome but this location Rocks. It's in Soho, what more can I say, close to so many other fabulous shops and eateries. It's funny because this store is one of those women clothing stores that my male friends don't mind going in and checking out their stuff. Aside from clothing, Anthropologie has furniture and bedding.
When you come here expect to pay a small fortune but you know you are paying for quality. Things that will last you.
B&H Photo has everything you need for photography. The staff here is very knowledgeable regarding anything that has to do with Visual and Audio Equipments. Which is so important. When it comes to buying these kinds of products you want to make sure that you are making an educated decision regarding your purchase.
I love pictures and always have, I figure it has alot to do with the fact that my mom took pictures of her six kids throughout every single day of our lives. This woman has pictures galore and I'm talking about the time when pictures were "analog". Wooow.. Way back when...
But this place keeps you up to date with the most current and advanced technology.
This is a superstore filled with Professional Audio Equipment, Computers, Home Entertainment Systems, even Video Surveillance. Its amazing all the great stuff they have here. From mid range to high end equipments. I bought my Canon 60D here and I am very satisfied with my purchase.
Talk about keeping up with technology, B&H now has an app for iPhone and Android.
