Great place to take the kids. Our daughter is 3 and is just old enough to enjoy some of the interactive exhibits. Great for kids in the 6-12 age range. Easy parking right next to the Coliseum.
I used Century to fix a major plumbing problem and the experience couldn't have been better. Great customer service, skilled plumbers, quick turnaround, and their bid came in 40% lower than competing bids. Great experience.
Great experience with these guys. We had a broken pipe under the house that was allowing all debris from the kitchen to drain into the soil. I had another plumber come in, take a look, and after first misdiagnosing the problem, gave me an outrageous quote to get it fixed. Robert came in the day after I called, took one look and quickly understood the problem. His bid came in several hundred dollars lower than the first one, and he fixed it the day after giving me the estimate. A really great experience.
Walk up taco restaurant with excellent and inexpensive food. I just went for the first time but am told it's been in Culver City for decades. (It's almost directly under the 405). Supposedly always a line but a great place to stop and get food.
Dr. Kvitne specializes in sports-related injuries and treated knee problems that developed while training for a marathon. I found him likeable, knowledgeable about the effects of long distance running, and very to-the-point. Here's some information on him from his web site:

Alex has done a number of handyman projects around the house. He built a brick patio, replaced siding on the house, and rebuilt our fence. He's honest, on time, and is a very hard worker. We live in the South Bay, but I believe he will take on projects anywhere in the LA area.
Just 4 doors from the Manhattan Beach Pier, a areat place for lunch or dinner if you're down at the beach. Higher-end pub food, with a number of great micro-brews. Love the Brew House Salad and the Barbeque Burger. Pastas are also good.
PROS: Great location, good beer
The best Thai food we've found in the South Bay area. We get take-out almost on a weekly basis. The curries are great.
Salon that specializes in men's haircuts. They do a nice job to make you feel that it's ok to be a man in a salon environment by having Maxim and Sports Illustrated instead of Vogue in the waiting area (not that I'm insecure in my manhood). In the $25-$35 price range. Convenient parking, friendly staff, decent haircut. On the ground floor of Paseo mall.
I did have a negative experience where on one visit I decided to have someone else cut my hair, which created a bit of a squabble between stylists. I guess I broke the unwritten rule of sticking with one stylist in a salon, but the new stylist was definitely an upgrade to the first one.
PROS: Atmosphere, Price
CONS: My hair causing a controversy
Very nice boutique children's clothing store in downtown Manhattan Beach. Its a tiny space, but packed with beautiful merchandise for babies and toddlers. Probably not the place to go if you're looking to restock the basics (Old Navy rocks), but great for high-end merchandise and gifts. The staff is always very friendly and helpful, and does a beautiful job on gift wrap.
PROS: Quality, uniqueness of merchandise
