Location: Costco Parking lot in Culver/Venice
QUOTES FROM A CHAIN OF EMAILS FROM FRIENDS
I went in for a quick oil change yesterday and was sold services I didn't need. Even after I said no the first time, the technician came back repeatedly and asked me if he could perform the services I declined.
At that point, I started to doubt myself: I'm 9 months pregnant with a sinus infection, So I went ahead and authorized new air filters even though they weren't due to be changed for another 7,000 miles. The Tech kept pushing that I needed them.
Then - here's the topper - I was driving my car around yesterday and it kept making funny noises. They removed the old air filters and never replaced them! The filter chambers were empty. My fluids weren't topped off and there was an upgrade charge for premium oil that I wasn't aware of.
My husband went up there today to speak with a manager and was given the runaround: "We don't handle complaints here on-site. Call our corporate office. If a woman is unsure, she should call her husband. Blah. Blah. Blah."
Shame on them? Yes. Just wanted to get the word out there...

if it's any comfort almost the same exact thing happened to me. the place is always jammed but i'll never go back.
********
The same thing happened to my husband.
He was told it would only take 8-10 minutes.
It took over an hour. They put in all the fluids even though he told them he didn't want it.
So after the fact he said that he didn't want it and the guys response was well do you want me to take it out?
*************
They do that all the time!! There was a whole tv show on it a while back. Sorry to hear you got stung.

I went there with a coupon I printed from their website. The service guy refused to honor the coupon and said my car (a normal VW Jetta) needed synthetic oil, so it would be $75 ($55 more than the coupon). I showed him my car manual that said regular oil is fine. He first claimed they didn't even have regular oil at that location, then he said they wouldn't guarantee any work they did if I didn't use synthetic oil. I demanded to see a supervisor but was told he was not there; the service guy wouldn't tell me his name. I just left and you should avoid even going there.

I visited this place once, and received a decent oil change. I went back and a service person tried to sell me every service they had and did not tell me about their ViP service card.

When I went to check out and wanted to purchase the $8 service card, the check out girl told me that I had to purchase the VIP card in advance because they can't apply it to current purchase! In addition, the poor thing couldn't even spell a simple street name for my address change!

We asked Enrique, the manager, to help us...he did. However, the service people REALLY need to work on their attitude, information and customer service skills!!!

I always took my Saturn SC2 to the dealership on Centinela, but they suddenly (for me) closed down, and the closest dealership to me was Torrance. I was very ticked off. My girlfriend suggested I just take the car to EZ Lube in the Marina for my tuneups and not hassle with the lengthy drive.

For the most part I have been pleased. I got their discount card, so get a break on the price each time I go there (it has been 4 times so far). They are polite and seem to be honest, and the prices aren't outrageous. I've never waited more than 30 minutes. Usually it is 15-20 minutes. A couple little problems were them not resetting the warning to get a tune up soon on my car. Seems they would ensure they do that, but they don't. The last time I was there they said I needed an air filter, and I said sure, go ahead, and yet when I looked at the bill afterwards I noticed they didn't replace the air filter. I asked and they said they didn't carry the one I required for my car. Well, why not be upfront and tell me? I asked them, and they said they would put it in for me free if I purchsed elsewhere. I didn't want the hassle.

Anyway, overall they are honest, do the job quickly and are in general, pleasant.

I do recommend them, and plan on returning regularly.

Update:

Following my last visit to EZ Lube in the Marina I broke down on the freeway with what turned out to be 2 flat tires. Apparently EZ Lube did not find it important to tell me my tires were in very bad shape. When I complained they said that telling me my tires required replacement would make them legally liable. I didn't follow that at all.Seems to me they should have been legally liable for my breaking down on the freeway at night as they had not warned me.

At any rate, as they always say what goes around comes around, and they ended up in trouble. I have stopped going there after that problem, and instead go to Pep Boys in Culver City. I trust them. As someone who is not at all mechanically inclined, trust is critical to me. Prior to the incident with my tires I was happy, but I won't return.
