The main branch library for the city of Berkeley is amazing. It is a huge building and very comparable to the main library in san Francisco. Everything is very new and well maintained. All the staff people are very friendly and helpful. And you can almost find anything that you want here. Its an excellent place to reserch a topic and get your homework done. Highly recommended.

Berkeley's main library is amazing-- definitely rivaling all public libraries, and probably even university libraries. With multiple floors of resources that cross all media, a knowledgeable staff and a slew of accessible computers, this place is what all other libraries wish they were. Add the extensive online system (including a complete, easily searchable catalog and the ability to renew items online) and the South branch's tool lending library (what other library has one of those?), and Berkeleyites should be proud.

PROS: Everything you ever wanted in a library
CONS: Expect to wait in line... especially if computers are down

The new building for the downtown main library is a fantastic design with nooks for reading spread out on all floors. The fifth floor with it's art and audio selections is by far my favorite homework spot with it's view of the golden gate bridge. The staff is always helpful and friendly, even the volunteers are cheerful. The bathrooms are clean and it is a quiet atmosphere with state of the art computers to search their category on hand.
