Three stars because I feel the care my pet received was good. However, these people will charge you within an inch of your life. I am now totally out of money as my account had to be cleaned out to pay for my pets care. This was a planned procedure, and I did receive an estimate (high estimate and low estimate), but the final charge was $700 more than the high estimate, which was just about what I had left in my account until my next payday. So my entire account was cleaned out and I had not a dime in my account. My checks bounced, I couldn't shop, I collected all my change and chased it in. Many items on the estimate are optinal, but when you are dropping off your dog for surgery they don't go over the estimate with you and let you pick what you want and what you don't. If you are taking your dog for surgery bring your original estimate with you and tell them what you what done and what you don't want done. Good Luck because, while they are good vets there they are ruthless with charges and they ask for the "balance" of the bill when you drop off, I was not aware I would be "pre paying" and I wasn't the only one dropping off my pet and hearing this, many at the desk were a bit shocked. Also, I was unaware the "estimate" is only good for a window of time, so if you wait you will be paying for another "evaluation visit."

Took our young Labrador for emergency Rimadyl toxicity treatment. Invoiced services did not match medical record diagnostics and FDA reported adverse drug reaction reported treatments and drug history did not match the medical record treatment and drug history. A diagnostic test on which we based a life critical decision to euthanize our dog was not on the invoice leading us to believe the diagnostic had not been performed. Hospital administration refused to discuss invoice, diagnostic and treatment discrepancies. VSC did not respond to a Better Business Complaint and we had to take VSC to small claims court for refund.

The doctors and staff here are wonderful. They were kind and caring to both my dog and my father, who brought her in for the surgery. They did a wonderful job and were everything you could ask for. The problem I experienced here is with the office manager. A surgery for your pet is a large expense, and one I was happy to pay. When, after 10 days, I asked if they were able to remove the charge from my original credit card to one with a more affordable interest rate to help me pay it off, I was informed that they had a charge each time they ran a credit card so they could not do this for me. The charge to refund and run a new card is minimal, I know to be fact. The idea that they are unwilling to work with someone to make the payment easier, which they are receiving in full from the credit card company no matter which card it is on, when I chose to trust them with my pet and for this large expense is extremely frustrating. I understand the cost of doing business, but I can promise you the minimal charge does not cut into their margin by enough to make it worth burning a customer. It is a shame that such a great place gets a black eye for something that is easily fixed. I will not be bringing my pets here ever again and will be sure to advise anyone else I know to do the same. Such a shame.

I took my greyhound Lucky there for treatment of Osteosarcoma. Dr. Jenkowski performed a flawless surgery. He was kind and caring in his consultation and on our follow up appointments. His surgical assistants were wonderful with Lucky and fussed over his whenever he came in. We followed the surgery up with 5 rounds of chemo administered by Dr. Carrie Hume who was wonderful, kind and caring. The therapy team of David and Natalie were the icing on the cake. Everyone that I encountered at VSCD was greyt and I recommend them highly. Yes they are a little expensive but they are a specialty and emergency center and their prices were no different from others who provide the same kind of service.

New Castle Police told me to take my neighbors dog there, after he was attacked by a pit bull. I reported the pit bull attack, and Animal Control wanted the vet report, to cite the owner of the pit bull.

They never did take the pit bull out of the neighborhood, New Castle County made money on the pit bull fight by fining the owner ...and this Vet Clinic charged me 1,100.00 dollars for treating a DEAD DOG, that was not my dog. Animal control offers refused to take the half dead dog, and someone had to pay...

I took my dog there after he was hit by a car, the emergencey care was pretty good - but super expensive, and they were way more concerned about my paying a $1200.00 deposit up front than triage for my dog! Then he was seen by Dr Bowersox - an eye specialiast there, who had the absolute WORST bedside manner I've ever seen, and he was extremely rude, cocky and down right nasty! Also - his charges were astronomical too....I will NEVER go back there!!!!

Back in 2010 my cat Macie became very ill, after many trips to our local vet we figured out what was wrong and were referred to Dr. Diroff. Dr. Diroff saved her life and we finally found out she has IBD and needs long term medication for it as well as a special food! She continues to have long term ongoing medical problems and sees him once or twice a year. Last year he diagnosed her with Asthma! He is wonderful!!! Our first meeting in 2010 (which yes they are expensive but HELLO PEOPLE THEY ARE SPECIALISTS!!!!) he spent an hour going through her history with us and LISTENED to all my questions and what I had to say.

Let's just say the $DOLLAR$ meter runs faster than the caring meter. Very clinical and very expensive. Whenever I called to check status of my pet, I was first told about the balance of my account$$$$$. Service was ok but vets disagreed with each other about diagnosis / prognosis. I would buy shares in the firm but wouldn't take another pet there.

I took my cat to VSCD after he started showing signs of a foreign body obstruction on a Sunday. Even though it was around 11:30 at night, the receptionist was polite and helpful. Dr. Rubin was thorough without discrediting my initial feeling that my cat had a GI obstruction. He is not the most pleasant cat for strangers to deal with, and yet the staff and Dr. Rubin were always smiling and did not seem in the least harried by him, which in itself shows a level of skill and dedication I do not think could be found elsewhere. Dr. Rubin moved the obstruction in my cat without doing anything unnecessary, and using her own good judgement rather than just "by the book," which saved my cat unnecessary pain and my wallet money - their "low estimate" cost ended up being what I paid. I recommend VSCD to anyone needing specialty or possible future emergency care - top notch, the best. This is good medicine.

the Emergency facility is the only one we, as a rescue, will use. Way better than Penn, VRC in Malvern--with whom we have had NOT good experiences. Of the specialists we have used, Dr. Bowersox (opthalmology) and Dr. Diroff (internal medicine) are standouts, as is Dr. Shanley for dermatology, who works at several specialty centers. You need to question them very carefully about what the costs will actually be. The overnight rate does not include being seen the next morning and some other things that tend to double what you were quoted. I don't like this aspect, I find it sneaky so caveat emptor. Quality of care is absolutely fantastic both for emergency medicine and by the specialists and you can tell that helping pets is important to them. Penn is just ridiculous with their diagnostics and the rest of the questionably worthwhile things they recommend and VRC in Malvern, well---let's just say we don't go there for emergency medicine even though it is closer for us. Especially if you have internal medicine issues, Dr. Diroff is hands down the best around in our opinion.

Dr Bowersox is treating my dog for multiple eye problems after my GP vet referred us to him. His exam was very thorough. Afterward he explained the problems and course of treatment in a clear and concise manner. I would highly recommend him to anyone needing advice about their pet's eyes. The facility is first-rate too.

Months ago, I wrote a review regarding Carrie Hume and her expertise in Oncology . This is review is to say again how wonderful a vet and person she is. Nera has nearly completed her chemo treatments and is STILL in remission. I will never regret the decision that I made to trust Dr. Hume and Vet spec.center of Delaware. They are always professional , knowledgeable and compassionate. Besides.....6 months after chemo-I have the BEST result of Dr. Hume's knowledge and expertise-my Nera LIVES....CANCER FREE. For ANYONE who has to face this decision. Be brave , show no fear -make this facility the choice for your pet. My sibe is living proof of how WONDERFUL this place really is.

I believe this is one of the premiere specialty and emergency services in the area. The doctors are highly skilled, and the nursing staff is incredibly competent in intensive care and emergency services. All of my personal pets and fosters have received care here. Their compassion, capability and customer service is stellar and I recommend this center to all of my friends and family.

This specialty practice has some very good and competent doctors. However, I was dismayed at the lack of knowledge and skills of their "technicians". I would have thought that such a practice would employ educated and licensed individuals to care for their patients, instead of under qualified kennel help. Despite being impressed with the doctors, I will not return to this practice. I prefer, instead, to leave my beloved pets in the hands of qualified individuals. VSCD should invest in staffing licensed individuals, and leave the others to clean the kennels.

We use this vet for specialty services (ultrasound, cardiology, orthopedics, when necessary) as well as off-hour emergencies. They're very expensive, as most vets are, but keep that in mind. They give estimates with a high/low and the bills are often at the high end. We've been pleased with the care in general - most of the vets are very experienced. We're glad that the service is available and if you can afford the care, it's worth it.
