Up until today, I have enjoyed shopping at Petunia's. My 4 year old son was looking forward to going there all day to pick out books on storms. When we got there, I pulled a few for him and he proceeded to look at them on the floor. Right away, one of the ladies came over and said that they prefer he play with the blocks and cars instead. They don't like kids to actually look at the books or touch them because of the risk of them ripping. I was so irritated. My son can read and enjoys looking at books. He doesn't abruptly turn pages or mistreat books at all. And if he did (which I know he wouldn't have), I would have taken them away. What kind of a children's bookstore doesn't allow kids to look at books?!! I will never be shopping there again. . . and it makes me sad because I actually liked their selection of books. I just didn't appreciate the treatment we received.

Right in the center of California, I don't know of any store where people know children's books as well as Petunia Place. They have an understanding about children's books that's rare to find in book stores anymore. And after all, isn't that what you need when you go to a book store-people who can give you recommendations? Sometimes I guess you don't even understand how important it is to have someone to recommend books. Without recommendations you could spend a lot of time reading the books with the best looking covers, reading bad books, and reading weird books. Petunia's place sorts out the books and gets you what you want. I've never had a bad recommendation from them. For me Petunia's Place is just a little bit of heaven on the northwest corner of Bullard and Palm.

I love Petunia's Place. As a Teacher-Librarian, I find the staff very helpful and friendly. I really appreciate the personal service. The wealth of books for both young adults and younger fits a wide range of interests. The different activities planned for young children to participate in makes this a great bookstore. The whole place is inviting!

Petunia's Place does NOT "hate kids". If a child pulls a pile of books ( which translates into inventory) off a shelf at a large bookstore from a national chain, it might go unnoticed because "those stores" are not run or owned by those who actually invest in the product. These impersonal big box bookstores have also made customers forget there are rules and conduct which should be practiced by customers in commercial establishments.

I recently visited Petunia's with my little girl and was appalled by the treatment we received. The owners of this store seem to have a profound dislike of children, especially children who dare to actually touch their books. My 5 year old daughter and I attended their story time and then she wanted to pick out some books. She pulled a few out on the floor to look at and we received a glare like I've never received before. Puuulleeeze. I picked up my daughter and we were outta there never to return. Good luck in your new store suckers!

I went to a couple of story times at Petunia's place. There aren't too many of these kind of bookstores left as the major book superstores have taken over so many neighborhoods. I was pleased with how much the helpers wanted to find the right books for my son. It is a must for those people with children and for children writers!

I absolutely love this little store. They have a great "Story Time" twice a week. My two sons love it. The staff is very friendly. This store has been around a while. My mother in law used to order sign language books from there for my sister in law when she was a small child. The atmosphere is fun and I hope it stays around for many years to come!

I love Petunia's Place. This is by far the cutest, and most well stocked children's book store in town! They have every book you could imagine and their staff are so informed and friendly. They have a great story time every week, my kids love this store!
5This is one of those stores that is a joy to behold...especially with children in tow. It is a captivating little store that begs to be visited over and over again--terrific storytimes and great activities for kids. They periodically have children's authors visit for signings and visits with fans. Petunia S Place is reminiscent of "The Shop Around the Corner" if you've seen the movie you've got mail. Those who work there actually know all about children's books and can help you find the perfect gift. Their prices are comparable to the bigger chain bookstores, but the shopping experience is much more satisfying!
