Modern Apizza is hands down the best pizza I've ever had. That includes all the pizzarias in New Haven and New York City (Sally's, Lombardi's..ect). Everything about it is perfection. Hot damn. Im getting hungry just thinking about it.

Pros: THE BEST PIZZA MONEY CAN BUY
Cons: its far, far away from my home
Modern Apizza Place is among my favorites. Sure I like Pepe's and Sally's, but Modern is right up there with the beat of them, and with out the ungodly wait times. The prices are better too.
5The quality and taste of Modern Pizza is amongst some of the best around. Although the atmosphere is a typical pizza parlor feel, the wood fired oven, thin crust pizza and the various toppings just can't be beat. There is also Foxon soda available like birch, cream, orange, and cola...made right in East Haven, CT. Service is fast, but be prepared for a long wait on weekends. Prices are reasonable. Parking is limited.

Modern has the best brick oven pizza in New Haven. The crust is the right thickness, the toppings are cooked to perfection. The pizza is always hot out of the oven. I reccomend the Veggie Bomb or the Itailian Bomb pizza. FABULOUS!

Pros: good food, good service, the best pizza

I love Modern's Pizza.
It tastes so delicious, none of that bitter thing going on.
I love the atmosphere and as a "pizza lover ", I highly recommend it.
PROS: DELISIOUS PIZZA
CONS: none
Modern's has a great pizza.
The toppings are fresh and so is the sauce an the oli they use.
Quality counts and service does too and they rank very high in both aspects.
PROS: terrific pizza
CONS:
If you like Brick oven pizza .you'll love this place. The service is good ,very friendly people.Easy location but the parking is a little tricky. You need to park down the street..then you can visit the beautiful New Haven area.

Modern has the BEST Pizza in the area. I've lived in the area for over 25 yrs and you can't beat it. The crust is just the right thickness and cooked to perfection. The sauce has the right taste and consistancy. Whenever I have friends or relatives in from out of town or business contacts visit from other countries we always end up at Modern at least once.
If you get it to go my tip is to ask for it to be slightly under cooked and not cut(for better handling) then when you get home or wherever, just pop it in a hot oven till cooked to your liking and it's like eating it at 874 State St. I've taken it to PA. and R.I. several times and it always reminds me of New Haven. Try it grilled too!

Pros: mouthwatering, taste, taste
Cons: lacks parking, moving lines
I come from upstate New York where we like our pizza juicy & thick crusted but after living in New Haven for 4 years, I can say this 'za is growing on me. Yes, there are lines but they aren't as endless as Pepe's and Modern supposedly has the oldest brick oven of all the New Haven institutions.
Very experimental varieties - clam seems to be a local fav - and you must always request mozzerella. Pizza so thin you could eat half the pie and my #1 suggestion is to ask for it cooked lightly. Most locals don't care that the crust is so charred from the 700 degree oven that you can't eat it but that seems wasteful to me. Decent salads and they offer a local soda, "Foxon Park." Offer up grinders and other entrees but their pizza is still Pres. Bush's favorite.

Pros: minimal lines, $$, thin crust
Cons: , lines on friday eve.
Growing up in CT you take the food for granted, especially good pizza. Since I moved away, no where can beat the pizza in CT, especially at Modern. Best pizza for the best price. I try to get there every time I get back to CT. I even got my wife and kids hooked on it!
