Blue Ribbon is very well known for their pulled pork, burnt ends, beef brisket, smoked sausage, and pulled chicken... and only a select few (well, up until now), know that they have the most delicious salads in the area. Their "Big Green Salad" is exactly that. BIG and GREEN. It is super fresh and contains big, ripe cherry tomatoes, red peppers, and cabbage. They even give you a little container of croutons made from their cornbread. The croutons are a little bit spicey and a lot of delicious. My favorite dressing is the Balsamic Vinaigrette, but I know the Caesar is pretty good as well. You can get the salad with pulled chicken or spicy chicken salad, but I find it is super filling just to eat the veggies... and the cornbread croutons... aaand the large slice of cornbread they give you with the salad as a side. Yum. You can't go wrong.

blue ribbon has the best pulled pork i have ever had!! just got back from a memphis bbq quest and did most all of the top places (central bbq, neelys interstate, pig on beal, corkys) and i would take the pulled pork hands down at blue ribbon over any of the memphis joints, and the pork ribs are as good if not better than in memphis! maybe memphis has the edge in sauce and sides but no way in meat!! real bbq is not for everybody, but if you like low and slow smoked pork you have to go to blue ribbon!

Most everything from the service to the taste of the food is quite incredible. The only "negative" thing I have to say about BR is regarding the cornbread. (Sorry... it's consistently a bit dry, guys!) Their sauces are tasty and pretty authentic - especially love the NC vinegar! The best part is that the sauce is a CHOICE...they don't use the sauces to cover up subpar cooking! Thumbs up from this Southerner who LOVES her barbeque! Wow...my mouth is watering now!

Being from the south it's hard to find real southern barbecue in the Boston area. Blue Ribbon does as good a job as I've seen. Only complaint is they serve it with sauce already on it. I'd much rather see it 'dry' (not literally, just w/out heavy sauce) and then have choices on which sauce to put on it. That's the southern way as I know it, and choice it always a good thing. I don't like a ton of sauce on my bbq, but others may, this way we can all be happy.

As for the sides, they are good, but damn they are SALTY! Need to back off the salt shaker. Just like the bbq, let the customer decide how much salt (sauce, etc.) they want on their food.

Other than that, it's a great atmosphere and really nice staff and owners and a cool place to hang out. Highly recommended.

Entering Blue Ribbon, our first impression was "it's such a tiny place!" (it seats about 10) The place offers the typical BBQ fairs like ribs, pull pork, chicken, beef brisket. We ordered Half Rib Platter ($14) and Beef Brisket Platter ($10) and each platter comes with a big corn bread and two sides. The Beef Brisket was tender, fatty, and juicy. The BBQ sauce provided on the side at the store was so-so, as it didn't add anything to the flavor of the meat. It was a lot of Beef Brisket. On the hand, the Half Rib was really not a lot of meat. Going in I was hoping for some falling-off-the-bond type of rib meat, but it was just "not tough". In any case, the meat was flavorful and I enjoyed it. It was probably the best BBQ I have had in Boston, but it really cannot compare to what I used to have down in Atlanta.

Yum, Yum! The BBQ ribs here are out of this world. They were so tasty! The portions are huge and the price is cheap! Very quick service. My waitor was very good! If you're hungry and looking for a quick bite and happen to be in the area you should try it.

I have been coming to Blue Ribbon for a while now. This place in my opinion has the best BBQ in the state and possibly in all of New England. The staff at both locations are very friendly and food arrives fast. Portions are huge. I highly recommend the "meat trio" of ribs, pulled pork and brisket. The sweet tea is also wonderful. The best time to eat is between 1:30-3:30 as it tends to get very crowded around lunch and dinner times. There is limited seating as well. If you love BBQ, you owe it to yourself to try this place, you will not be disappointed.

Cons: Parking, Need one in Boston

I'm definitely not the biggest BBQ fan I know, but I absolutely LOVE Blue Ribbon! Their array of delectable BBQ sauces are the best bar none. It can be kind of a trek getting to Arlington since surface street traffic can be a little on the slow side, but it's SO worth it! Will definitely satisfy ANY BBQ craving you might have!

Popped in for a plate of Memphis dry rub ribs and pulled pork with mashies, creamed corn/leeks (both excellent) and cornbread on the side. Pulled pork was tangy and tasy, ribs were delicious and covered with some sauce. All the meat was flavorful and came in large portions, nice job! You order at the counter and grab a stool or do takeout. Decor is perfect for cue, lots of little country knick-knacks and you're blasted by delicious smells when you step in. Good assortment of meats and sides, I'd definitely recommend this spot but I'd recommend coming in early...

The food and the sauces are great. As Shakespeare said of his barbecue, "readiness is all." And this barbecue is cooked appropriately, slowly. The people who run this place are competent and friendly and deserve every possible success. That said, we seldom get food here, anymore, because there is always someone in our group who wants baby back ribs, and Blue Ribbon does not make them. The rating questions are mostly inappropriate; this is mainly take-out.

Blue Ribbon is one of my favorites. If you want to sit down, go to Red Bones. If you're on any sort of schedule, go to Blue Ribbon. Both have similar quality food, Red Bones has larger portions but costs a bit more. I'd say the largest factor is your time constraints.

Mush, this place is unbelievable! Big portions make you fat, but it's a good value and you can't beat the taste. Service is fast, and extremely friendly, even when the place is packed. Everything on the menu is great, never a dissappointment. Big Green salad is my Big Green friend. Pulled pork is a close friend too! Be there!

I first ate here about six years ago, and haven't stopped yet. The smell as you walk in makes your mouth water, and as you read through the chalk board menu your stomach starts to rumble from the hunger. With so many different options, everyone can find something to eat. Along with there freshly baked dessert, and great pickles, and variety of sauces Blue Ribbon is a definite in BBQ.

As important as the dedication to authentic barbeque, is the consistency of the product -- all products -- at all the Blue Ribbon locations. Perhaps the food deserves better than it gets in the way of ambiance -- it is great food that happens to have humble origins -- but this is hardly a drawback. It's best to take it out and eat it at home, where you have some control over the setting. But in a pinch, or if the need for barbeque is tantamount, the outlets (including the less well-known one in the Cambridge River St. Bread & Circus) are clean, well-lit and cleverly, if cheaply, decorated.
