Although ACA did quality work, for the most part, if you hire them keep these things in mind: #1. Be sure you aren't going anywhere during the job. You will need to CONSTANTLY monitor the work and progress. Come home every day and check everything - we had gas leaks(nai; through gas pipe when siding replaced), electrical outages(nail through main electrical wire when siding replaced), water damage(incorrect holding elements put in roof during rainy season) that if we had not been home could have been disastrous. #2. Whatever the estimate they give you is, be sure to have a whole bunch more in savings for the things they DON'T include - for example, if you have outside faucets, electrical, etc when you get the estimate don't assume they are included. We have never had a contractor that did not include existing material elements in a project. If you want what you have to start with, be sure they are specified to be replaced, otherwise when you ask where they are, they will be happy to put them in - at an additional cost. #3. Have a complete understanding of what they will replace - ex. if you need a deck replaced, be sure you get an estimate for the existing structure - we had a large deck element that we assumed was included in the replacement bid, but they did not include in the bid, assuming, I guess, that they could build whatever they wanted, not replace what was there. Always ready with an excuse for mishaps, always justified in their lack of attention to details, and ALWAYS ready to fix things, at a cost. As someone else said, they do have a snappy billing dept. and never missed sending a bill.
If you want a true estimate for your project, be sure to include every outlet, faucet, piece of deck, nail, hose holder, gate, etc. or be prepared for a 20-30% increase - all the little details add up, and are charged at a PREMIUM price - no discounts because they missed something.

We had an estimate from company to replace two windows. Sales people seemed knowledgable and had a nice presentation. However when the estimate came in it was twice as expensive as two other companies. If they had been more competitive we would have gone with them.

After reading the negative review of A Cut Above Exteriors I felt compelled to write a review of this company after just hiring them to install new Andersen windows, install Hardiplank siding and paint my NE Portland bungalow. The experience? In one word: AWESOME. The products are great and the personnel even better.
Anyone who has had a bad experience with any sort of remodel knows how stressful it is to turn over your house to to people you don't know. Well you need not worry about that when you hire A Cut Above Exteriors. You will be amazed how easy it is to see the product, get information about the product and its installation process. My sales consultant, Amy Hand, the window installation team , the siding installation team and finally the painting team were honest, friendly, experienced, knowledgeable, easily contacted, neat and 100% dedicated to doing a perfect job.You are completely in the care of forthright project managers and crew chiefs who provide total customer care from the beginning to the completion of your project. They always keep you informed of scheduling dates and will answer all questions and concerns promptly and with great satisfaction. It's amazing how well they coordinate all phases of your project so there is very little delay or disruption in the completion of your project. Because they are so in charge of everything you don't have to be wondering if people are going to show up or not. Believe me, they will and usually by 7:30 in the morning and working non stop through the entire day. They don't leave you with messes either. And every little detail is taken care of before they and you determine that the job has been done successfully to your satisfaction.
Once when I asked the siding manager if something could be changed he said " We'll do whatever it takes to make you happy. This is your house." This spirit is ever present with everyone at A Cut Above Exteriors. They really do everything to make you happy. It's the truth.

Cons: none

My wife and I agree that this was the worst experience that we have ever had working with any kind of vendor. Lack of communication, poor/delayed scheduling, lack of commitment, chronic rework and revisits and needing to complete the work yourself were just the low-lights of the experience. Their highly acclaimed installation and customer service standards left a lot to be desired. But, they have a very snappy billing department if you find that a plus.

We had all of our windows replaced by A Cut Above and we are still raving about what a great job they did! They were professional from start to finish and we are staying so much warmer this winter with our new double paned windows. The staff at A Cut Above are leaders in the window business and will take the time to talk with you about your options. They came and worked with me at my convenience which I really appreciated. They finished the job quickly and correctly. I tell everyone I know who is looking to redo their windows to call A Cut Above. I believe they now specialize in Anderson windows only.
