It is no wonder Grecco's is constantly on the half price dinning deals that most radio stations offer...Why so they can get diners in the door.... I purchased a $50 half price deal in which I received 2 $25 gift certificates. \r

We've been to Grecco's several times. The first time, we were blown away at finding this gem in the middle of nowhere - this chef does know how to cook! We've probably been there 5 times total and it's never lived up to the first. When we tried the chef's tasting menu, way too much emphasis was put on exotic wild game dishes that I didn't care for. The worst experience was when we spontaneously thought we'd go there and the hostess, I kid you not, loudly proclaimed not once but three times, "THEY DON"T HAVE A RESERVATION." The place is miniscule and three tables were open. Seriously. We were so uncomfortable. If they can iron out the service so it feels attentive but not overly stuffy, it can be a very good place to have dinner. I think Justin Grecco is extremely talented. We keep going back hoping for the best again.

I had read their website, as well as reviews. The website and reviews sounded like this would be a great place to go, with amazing food. There were four of us for Sunday brunch, we were celebrating an 80th birthday. This was my choice of restaurants, I wanted it to be special. There was one or two other tables besides our table. They were not busy. Two in our party ordered the eggs and steak dish. The eggs were pretty much inedible, the bottoms of the eggs were fried to death. I can make much better eggs at home. The other two meals that were ordered were the eggs, salmon benedict, the presentation was better, the salmon tasted slightly fishy, The food came out of the kitchen "luke warm" certainly not hot.

The restaurant is charming and cute. The service was fine. The food was terrible. I am always disappointed, when I'm spending money on something I could have prepared better at home, This was exactly the situation with Greccos. It certainly did not live up to my expectations

What a gem of a restaurant! My daughter and I had the four course dinner with wine last Saturday evening and wished that the evening would never come to an end. The four courses were marvelous, the wines superb, and the ambience delightful. Taja was our server and made the evening very special. Justin came to our table as a final touch to a fantastic evening. I will return with my husband and friends for Valentine's Day dinner and look forward to what I know will be an evening to remember for all of us. I am so thankful that Justin chose St. Croix Falls for his restaurant! Here's to elegance and a menu that is incredible.

I work with Chef Justin at Grecco's (formerly Dam Bistro) and all that I can say is that he is one of thee most talented Chefs that I have had the oppurtunity to work with and I have worked with many. We both attended the same Le Cordon Bleu in Mendota Heights, MN and I am still seeing new things that I have never seen before from Chef Justin Grecco. With a new menu every week things NEVER get boring or dull. Chef Justin only settles for thee best and you will never see ANYTHING half-assed come out of his kitchen. I am very honored to be working for him and I hope to learn everything that I can from the man. I am not writing this only because I work there. I am writing this because it is my honest opinion as a picky chef. If you enjoy the best, please come and get it! You will not be sorry.

Pros: Always something new, only the best ingredients, close and personal, and GREAT food!

Cons: No grill :o)

The strongest thing this out landishly pretencious place has going is the chef's over inflated ego.
The atmosphere and menu is trying way to hard tp impress and be over the top. The service was patronizing. The decor on the shabby chic side. I found when the chef came out and ruined our personal conversation to talk about his skills it felt as if he was fishing for compliments instead of welcoming us. It would be nice to a have a local place with good food in place yet another great wanna be. Please stop writting your own reviews and consintrate on basic food. I don't want to read about your bio- come up with something original that you don't have to sell your kids for. This is St. Croix Falls. We know what good food is and don't need the additude.

My wife and I were introduced to Grecco's by Troy Chamberlin at the Chateau St. Croix winery. What a find. Chef Justin was as impressive in his delivery and attention to detail as you would find at any five star restaurant. We had the six course tasting menu with the wine pairing and found the diner to be well paired with the wines, and as creative as we've ever had. We felt like the cuisine we enjoyed at Grecco's was of similar caliber as Chef Tim Mckee of La Belle Vie and Solera in minneapolis. This is a place we will visit whenever we are in the area. Congrats on a great job Justin.

I am a little leery if Grecco's on the St. Croix will make it.
Chef Justin has quite the talent but doesn't have the stamina to see things through.
I worked with Justin at Bellanote and was amazed at how talented he was and his love for food. However, it immaturity and extra curriculars are those of not a business owner but those of a troubled young adult. He was let go at Bellanote for the extra curriculars and fired at the Afton House for telling them off on a regular basis.
I hope he makes it and I sure hope that he has cleaned himself up so that he doesn't skim the top off the business and its investors.

We are fortunate enough to have the Dam Bistro in our "backyard" so to speak. Wow, what a gem!!!! Ever since Justin bought the restaurant, it is absolutely perfect. Justin changes his menu weekly and every time we dine here we are pleasantly surprised. The ambiance is absolutely perfect for a quiet, romantic dinner or a nice dinner with friends. Very relaxing and absolutely wonderful food!! The staff is knowledgeable and very friendly. We had Barbara when we dined there last and she was such a treat for a waitress! The restaurant has an open kitchen and it incorporates into the quaintness of the restaurant perfectly! We have a 4 course menu, with a bottle of wine for about $150 (including tip). Great price for great quality food and service. Justin, the chef and owner, usually comes out to the tables to introduce himself to the guests and make ou feel welcome. We will definitely be back and we are so excited to have such a talented chef so close to home. You will not find a better restaurant anywhere in the area and will have a hard time finding one in the twin cities as well. Try this place, you will definitely be back!!!!

The previous review from bigeaterinmpls 10-09-2008, sounds like a disgruntled co-worker or jealous investor. Chef Justins hunt for his own restaurant, had finally refused to do business with a few unsavory business vultures. He loved opening the Bellanote restaurant, and was given the opportunity to unleash his passion for cooking. We loved his tastings at the Afton House Inn and relished the historical table side specialties that makes the Afton House Inn a destiny worth the trip! In a journey to "own" his own restaurant, he found himself thrown into the dens of business tycoons, exploiting him with offers that wanted huge cuts off his projected profits. I was thankful, as a personal aquaintence of Chef Justin, he ventured out on his own, and found honest hard working ethical people that believe in him, leaving him controling his own destiny. The resulting reward was it made him all the more passionate a chef. See for yourself how your so called, "troubled young adult" has blossomed here at his own restaurant, Greccos on the St Croix. You'll find his food is unsurrpassed anywhere in the upper midwest. He will now be able to excell under his own demands and not have to prove to anyone, that it took more than just "stamina" to bring him here to St Croix Falls. He didn't have to "clean himself up" as you said, he just had to "never give up"! If you get past your issues, please make a reservation soon, I've never known Chef Justin Grecco to hold a grudge, and I promise you, he'll wecome you with open arms, a glass of wine and a very fine dining experience! 10-11-2008

Pros: Thumbs up, exceptional dining experience

Cons: 34 minute drive to get there, hope he opens more in the future!

I have good knowledge to know that the review before mine is a lie. He is just upset because he got FIRED from Dam Bistro for being a terrible chef. Really. Would you advertise how bad you are by putting up a review like that. Seriously. That should go on his resume.

As a former chef at the dam bistro I want all you to know that they lie to the customers about how organic and local there food, meats, produce really are, not local at all and unorganic the meats and produce really are. W.E.I does not sell to the bistro because the prices are to high. Local beef farmers pricing is to much to bear for the owner as well. So where does the food come from your local grocier, the same meats and produce that you can purchase and cook are beining served to you at a huge mark up. So long story short why eat there at all if your getting robbed by the menu and what it says which is not true at all, eat at home or by camp fire and save a bunndle. When in the area ask the locals what they really think of the Dam Bistro you just might save a feww bucks and some integrity.

Another great find in the Taylors Falls/St Croix area. This is a great place to go if you are undecided between having a full, creative and tasty meal or just a great tasting sandwich! My wife had the sandwich, Rueben, and I had the Bison entre. Both were great. The Bison was tender and surrounded by wonderful vegetables and an amazing, flavorful sauce. mm - mm - mm. Great comfort food for that cold evening! Wine selection was great and service was very helpful.
