Bay Books is one of the cutest little bookstores in Coronado. They stock a large selection of childrens books by number of top childrens authors, as well as some of the hard to find childrens books. If you are a childrens book collector, or there is a special little reader on your gift giving list, then this is the store for you to visit during your next trip to Coronado. In addition to childrens books, the other must see section of this store is the large selection of Latin American books. The variety of books sold in this store appeals to readers of all ages, who like all genres of literature. The store is well staffed, and the employees have a lot of knowledge about books, especially childrens books. Even if you are not looking to buy a book, drop by this little store for a browsing trip. If nothing else, flip through some of the beautiful illustrations found within the covers of some of the nicer childrens books in the store. You wont regret taking the time to visit this little store.
Wahrenbrocks Book House claims that they are San Diegos Premiere Bookstore. It is a decent sized store that you will definitely want to visit if you are a reading enthusiast. You can spend awhile browsing through both the used and new books that they sell in this book store. They have one of the largest selections of California history books, as well as Mexicos history. Not only do they sell current hit list books, but they also sell a small selection of books that would be considered antiques. Its a fun store to browse, and its located in Downtown, San Diego. If you work in the downtown area, its a great place to spend your lunch hour. The prices are fair, not inexpensive, but definitely not high end book store prices either. I would consider it a book store for everyday book enthusiasts, all though die hard readers will find something that interests them within the walls of this store as well. The employees are probably the best part about this book store, their knowledge of the stores collection of literature will help you find a book, even if you do not know the title, author, or ISBN number. They will also help you find the perfect gift for every book lover on your gift list.
Ninas Books is just one of many great used bookstores in San Diego, and while they carry new books in addition to used books, it is their supply of used books that will keep you returning to Ninas Books again and again. Whether you are into the great classics like Shakespeare and Dickinson, or you prefer mystery, science fiction, or even need gently used Cliff notes for school, you are sure to find it at Ninas books. They are conveniently located on El Cajon Blvd, and have very convenient store hours, so you can drop by this shop after school or work, if you need something in a hurry. The prices are reasonable, but considering most of the books they sell are used, I think the prices are a bit higher then you would expect to pay for a used book from somewhere like E-bay, a garage sale, or even Amazon sellers. They will also purchase used books, and all though they will not pay you cash for your books (only store credit), if you are looking to purchase a lot of books, that might be the way to go. Just dont expect to get fair market value for the books that they buy off of you.
Seabreeze Nautical Books Charts and Gifts has been around since 1980, serving the community of La Jolla, and surrounding areas. This wonderful store is much more than a nautical book store, but its also a store chalk full of navigational tools, study guides, guidebooks for cruising the waters around the world, and even nautical themed gifts. They definitely carrying more nautical books than anything else, in fact they have the largest selection of nautical books in the city of San Diego. They also happen to be a navigational chart agency. The employees in this store really know their stuff, and there isnt much you cant ask in this store. Whether you are a once in awhile cruise the open seas kind of person, a captain, or some other nautical enthusiast, there is something in this store for you. You can even take your favorite furry friend along with you. The store really emphasizes boating safety, which is rare these days in nautical stores. You will love the atmosphere of this store, and the employees knowledge of everything nautical will keep you returning to Seabreeze Nautical Books Charts and Gifts for all of your gift giving, and personal use nautical needs.
The Gaslamp Books Museum is better known to most as the Wyatt Earp Museum, not because it is an entire museum devoted to Wyatt Earp, but because of the Wyatt Earp Room located within the museum. The museum is free of charge, and has lots of history about San Diego, including lots of wonderful historical photographs. You will find everything from history about the military community in San Diego to Balboa Park, and just about everything in between. The Wyatt Earp Room, located within the museum, boasts the biggest collection of Wyatt Earp stuff found on the West Coast. Conveniently located in the Historic Gaslamp District of San Diego, not too far from the original location of the saloons and gambling halls that Wyatt Earp frequented back in his day. The Gaslamp District, in Wyatt Earps day was known as the Stingaree District, where Wyatt Earp not only visited, but also owned saloons and gambling halls. This would be an excellent field trip for students studying Wyatt Earp in school, or for anyone who just wants to study a little piece of lesser known San Diego history. Its not a museum that you can visit over and over again, but its definitely worth at least one visit.
Apple Box Toys is another little toy store, that is located in Sea Port Village. It offers a unique toy buying experience, with the option to personalize just about any of the wooden toys that you purchase. They sell a lot of wooden toy items, from swords to toothbrush holders, but they also sell other products, including a wide selection of hard to find Christian Childrens music. This store reminds me of a name brand catalog that offers personalization on many of their items. Unlike the expensive companies that charge you for personalization, this little shop will personalize just about anything you buy that can be personalized absolutely free of charge. Not only will they personalize it in English, but you can also order items to be personalized using the Hebrew alphabet, which is something that is rare to find in childrens toys. Many of their items are hand crafted, and for the work and time that goes into the items that they sell, the prices are extremely reasonable. This store is a hidden little treasure in Sea Port Village, and the customer service is second to none in the toy industry. They also allow long personalizations, such as team names, special messages, and even company names. The products that they sell are not just fun for children, but many adults will enjoy them as well. They also sell a wide variety of wooden gifts that would make excellent, end of the year teacher gifts that can be personalized with the teachers name.
The Toy Cottage is not your average chain toy store. In fact, you wont find many of the latest and greatest toys at The Toy Cottage. Instead, what you will find is a cozy little toy shop, that children and adults alike will have a memorable shopping experience. With convenient store hours, and its convenient location in the heart of Sea Port Village, its definitely worth ducking into The Toy Cottage if you are looking for a special gift for the child who has everything. The toys sold at The Toy Cottage range from the hard to find to the unique, and all though other toy stores are cheaper than The Toy Cottage, they are not as outrageously expensive as some of the chain toy stores. The best part about a visit to The Toy Cottage is definitely the knowledgeable employees. The employees are really in tune with the products sold in the store, and they are like having your own personal gift finder, helping you find the perfect gift for every child (or child at heart) on your gift list, every time.
If you have never been aboard a carrier in your lifetime, then the San Diego Aircraft Carrier Museum is the perfect place for you to go. Located in the military community of San Diego, you will be taken aback by the size, equipment, and efficiency of everything military related aboard the carried. I personally have been aboard a carrier, so it's not a museum that I would be impressed by, however if you have never been aboard a carrier, or just want to get up close to everything on a carrier, then it's a cool place to go. Students would enjoy visiting this museum, especially when they are studying wars or military history. Be careful when you take along very young children however, it's a lot of walking, and I guarantee it will wear the little ones out. The museum generally isn't crowded, and there is a lot to see whether you are a military buff, or just a civilian looking to learn more about the military and it's fleet of carriers.
