....and been mortified to get a real haircut after that? Yeah, that was me. I went to Sanger Beauty Salon feeling like a fool with 100 different hair lengths going on. They took me in, they didn't judge, and they actually made my hair look good. The price was what I would expect to pay at a student facility, but the cut was all pro. Plus, they got me in and out and actually listened to what I wanted done with my hair. And they didn't even laugh at me :)
If you need sporting goods, or embroidery work, or a specialty item in the world of sporting goods, Sports Academy is your place. It fits right into the small town feel of Sanger with its family atmosphere and personal service. Plus they're always willing to go above and beyond for the customer. When my neice from back East needed something from my small town for a school project, I picked up a visor with the high school logo on it. Sports Academy added my neice's name for no charge when I told them why I was getting it. That extra bit of service will keep customers, and they get that!
Pets are part of the family, right? Well, not necessarily here. My Lab/Greyhound had a mass in her abdomen. She's my baby girl, so I was fairly distraught. I actually watched the assistant grab my dogs feet in her 2 hands, and flip my dog on the steel table. My sweet girl's head bounced against the steel, and she cried out. The Dr had no problem with any of this. Fortunately, the mass was not cancerous, and it was removed and my girl was stitched up. The stitches came out that night as I awoke to my doh lying open and bleeding on the floor. She charged me for follow up staples! I'll never go back!
We needed a veterinarian for our sick Rottweiller quickly and stumbled across these guys (I'll tell you why we didn't use the vet in Sanger in another review). They were so fantastic! They took us right away and calmed us down while they took great care of our dog. That was 5 years ago, and since then, they have cared for our 4 dogs in one way or another. When our beloved Rott passed away last year, we received a beautiful, heartfelt sympathy card from them. They are very reasonable, and they are extraordinarily compassionate. They understand that pets are part of the family.
I was recently dismissed from my job while on maternity leave. There were some things about the whole deal that were really fishy, so I consulted an attorney before signing the severence agreement which absolved the company of all wrongdoing. When I called Willie Smith, he was anxious to hear more, and set up an appointment with me for a quick fact gathering. We ended up talking for 2 hours and he was extremely interested in looking over all of my paperwork. I left everything with him after agreeing we would meet in a couple of days. Then I couldn't reach him. As the dealine for my severence agreement approached (NOT signing would cost me 3 months salary), I couldn't get a call back. He finally left a message explaining that there were some challanges with my case, but we had options. Finally the Saturday before the Monday it was due (I had 21 days to review it), he called to say I may as well sign it, he couldn't help me. But then he wasn't in the office ands the race was on for me to get the agreement to sign. His assistant was kind enough to come in on Sunday and get my paperwork for me, but the whole experience was unnerving and awful.
No matter where I live, I can't see going anywhere other than Hardings Furniture for a piece of furniture. My entire house from bedroom set to washer, dryer, and all kitchen appliances are straight from Hardings. Go in and talk to Rod Harding who is one of the nicest, most genuine people you will ever meet. He only carries quality products, and for much less than the big chains. He'll sit down with you and explain what makes a piece of furniture a higher quality than another piece---but he won't bog you down with details you don't want or need, if you please! Plus, the store is just cool. It's a huge wide open space with "furnished rooms" to give you an idea of what he carries. You can pick up some decorating tips as well! The deliverymen are prompt and courteous, and every buying experience has been a joy!
PROS: Inexpensive, quality furniture from a kind family business
I've been fortunate enough to not have any major car problems since I moved to Sanger. However, I have had MORE than my share of flats due to hitting a nail. Everytime it happens, I run over to Delsids. For under $20, the guys jack up my car, pull off the tire, put a patch on it (or a plug when necessary), pop the tire back on, and send me on my way. It doesn't matter how many cars they are working on, they always have 5 minutes to get me back on the road!
PROS: Fast, honest, friendly
If you are anywhere in Central CA, you need to come to Sanger at least once for Chuck Wagon. They have the best darn chili dogs you will find, chili cheese fries....I love their chicken sandwiches as well. The fries are big and salty--ask for them extra crispy if you don't like them soft, though. The milkshakes are a walk through heaven! They are "real" milkshakes---not the mix preocessed stuff that fast food places use. As good as they are, they are quite reasonable. Expect to pay a slightly higher than fast food price. It is a walk up eatery with a few picnic tables nearby, but plan to pick it up and eat at home!
PROS: Excellent food! Reasonable Prices! And did I mention the food? YUM!
CONS: Tough parking, no dining area
So if you happened to see my review of ANOTHER automotive place in Central CA, you may realize I'm gunshy to bring my car in when I'm having a problem. Not anymore! When my Corsica was stalling, I took it to Sevring West and told them how I'd been taken advantage of by another repair shop. They were HORRIFIED! They took my car for a test drive, and asked if they could keep it until they got it to act up. In a few short hours, they diagnosed the problem (stuck solenoid), explained to me what it was and how it worked. And charged me all of $50! Well worth it! And I LOVED that they took the time to explain everything to me!
PROS: Fair Honest and quick!
My car was stalling out for no reason, so a random look through the yellow pages led me to Lion's. I went in and they took my car for a couple of hours. They told me the problem was the CV boot needed to be replaced. I honestly knew NOTHING about cars at the time, and agreed. They charged me $200, and never showed me my old part or anything. On the way home, my car stalled out again. I called them and they responded "well, the boot needed to be replaced anyway. Your problem is probably the fuel pump. Bring it back and we'll replace it for $275." Well, I ended up taking my car to a RELIABLE place (see my other reviews!), and it turned out to be a little part that they only charged me a few bucks for. It never stalled again. In the meantime, Lion refused to deal with me or even acknowledge they had swindled me. I will NEVER go back there again.
PROS: It was close to my house
CONS: Thieves! Swindlers! Bad Business people!
