They made a former Von's into this huge Mexican supermarket. They have a big meat counter (great meat at cheap prices), a Mexican bakery (pan dulce) a juice bar and a food bar with cooked Mexican food to eat there or take home. The produce is fresh and they carry almost everything you'd find at Ralph's or Stater Bros plus some specialty items. The only things that were limited were pet staples-not much variety of cat food or litter. I usually need to go to another market to finish off my shopping, but it's worth it!
This market caters to the Hispanic community in Orange. Their meats are usually cheaper than the bigger grocery stores and since I love to make fajitas or grill chicken or beef, I buy my marinated meats at El Metate. They cut the meat to suit Mexican-style recipes. Their produce is way cheaper than Ralph's but doesn't look as "pretty" probably because they don't use as much preservatives and the fruits are actually ripe.
This Spire's is next to the 55 Freeway on Santiago Canyon Road. They make the best cinnamon rolls and fresh squeezed orange juice. I have only enjoyed their breakfasts and love everything but was disappointed in the breakfast steak and eggs. The steak was made up of little pieces of meat put together and grilled like a regular steak. What a let-down! The rest of the food has always been delicious and the staff is friendly and efficient. They have several daily specials.
This location of Polly's has been a favorite with my family for several years. I love their breakfasts which are served with toast or their delicious fresh baked cinnamon rolls or muffins. The servers are friendly and fast. My favorite lunch is the chicken salad sandwich and fruit cup. Their hamburgers are always yummy and the peach pie is fantastic. Plan for a short wait on the weekends.
This is a fairly new sandwich shop that serves some breakfast items, such as a panini breakfast sandwich which I enjoyed. For lunch I enjoyed a pastrami on rye sandwich combo with an apple and pecan side salad. The pastrami was lean and the salad was great. The food is good and the place is packed around lunchtime. I'm not sure that they're open for dinner, so I'd call first.
Mattern's carries a variety of deli meats, breads, crackers, pastries, candies, and other German goodies. They make sandwiches for takeout, or they have some small tables where you can enjoy lunch. They carry meats like the fantastic bratwurst that is used in the Orange International Street Fair. They even offered to smoke my Thanksgiving turkey for me one year. (I didn't do it since we like traditional roasted turkey.)
There's nothing special about Johnny's, but we eat out often and we try everything! We had a decent breakfast there, and once tried the hamburgers. They were just OK, but the place looks like a remodeled Taco Bell, and lacks style. To be honest our neighbors love Johnny's burgers so maybe we need to give it another try.
This place is North of the Orange Plaza next to Zito's and Jalapeno's. We chanced to go there once because the other places were full. I enjoyed a delicious Chicken Caesar Wrap. But go for lunch or early dinner because they close @ 5PM.
This is a simple coffee shop with great food and a great location. We have enjoyed a variety of breakfasts, traditional and Mexican. Their hamburgers are tasty and the prices are fair. It's not the prettiest place, but we go for the good food.
I enjoy breakfast at Beyond Bagel Me. They prepare a variety of great omelets and serve them either on the side, or as a sandwich. Their fantastic coffee completes the breakfast. Since I only go for breakfast, I haven't enjoyed their pizza, but other patrons rave about it. It's a neat and clean environment with plenty of parking.
