My mother-in-law swears by this place, and I was pleasantly surprised by the quality of the house fried rice, soups and scallops. Good for eating in or taking out.
Counter Cafe
Piss poor substitute for the G&M steakhouse and its greasy breakfasts. Call me a curmudgeon, but I'd take corned beef hash and eggs over this new healthy vegan fare any time. (It's not all vegan, but please...at least capture something of the old SPIRIT in the new establishment!) On a positive note, the coffee is quite good.
Angie's Mexican Restaurant
The thick, moist homemade corn tortillas are reason enough to eat here. You won't be disappointed. The rest of the food is quite good, but this is what keeps me coming back.

Sit at the counter bar and watch the magic...a birds-eye view of your lunch. Incomparable ambience--a throwback to the diners of yesteryear. Great iced tea.
Ben's Long Branch Barbecue
The greasiest, sloppiest good time you could ever have slightly east of IH-35 on 11th St for under $20. You are not paying for luxury, but these are some FINE bbq meats, as the slogan says: WE AIN'T PIZZA. Sides are great. My husband is shouting about banana cream pudding. We are going to Ben's ASAP.

Elegant and tasty selection of pastries; the perfect place to stop in for some treats for work. The sticky buns are super-delicious.
Phoenicia Bakery
THE place in Austin for pita, hummus, olives and other Mediterranean delights. Everyone in my family LOVES Phoenicia bakery, including the ones who drive in from Houston every once in a while, just to pick up some of their offerings.
Whole Earth Provision Co
I recently got a great pair of Ahnu sandals here. Had never heard of them, but the staff were quite knowledgable, helpful and found me a great deal. I would definitely come back. And I second the reviewer who mentioned how much fun kids can have at the store, as I had a three year old and a five year old with me, and they were happily entertained while I tried on shoes.
Artz Rib House
Sweet sauce, lovely and beefy ribs. The mac and cheese is amazing. Dark, smoky ambience--good for kids early in the evening, but a grown ups place later on. Definitely recommend.
Ruta Maya Importing Co
OMG Lovely Coffee. Best coffee in the world is right here. I don't miss how hot I was in Texas, but I do miss Ruta Maya coffee, and occasionally have friend and family send a bag up my way.
